To be fair, their animation budget used to be abysmal. It didn’t help that the voice acting and writing were garbo. But if I were still a kid I would 100% be into whatever I just watched

Pokemon is one of the few shows that I don't feel like needs "good animation". What matters more is the actual choreography of the fight, which it's uh...mostly done well when it needed to be serious.

Imagine if the games were even a tiny fraction as exiting as this

Oh that was fantastic. Loved how Dusknoir's shadow ball got more intense after the Tera, good reflection on the gameplay mechanic.

I do love Dusknoir, one of my favorite ghost-types.

For someone who has just finished all of pokemon journeys and the final battle against ash and leon, i really completely ENTIRELY beg to differ

Edit: I think I got people a too confused of this comment, I meant I disagree about the fact people say "the Pokemon anime has bad animation", the animation from I guess the start of the series leading up to B/W was pretty doodoo garbage in my opinion (sry to those B/W fans), but then came XYZ were it got insanely beautiful looking battle and all. And then came journeys where most battles looked exceedingly better tenfold, including Ash vs Leon.

0:02 I love the detail of shadow punch never missing its target

I mean, as far as weekly anime go, Pokémon is honestly not bad. And the studio behind the anime, OLM, can make some beautiful animation. But, when it comes to weekly shows, sometimes quality is left to the side.

Sun and Moon personally was where the series animation peaked. A lot of the battles were effortlessly smooth in their execution such as Ash’s battle with Misty and Kukui.

The Pokemon in that series just has so much life in them and the attacks feel like they have an actual impact whenever they hit.

The ending of the video destroyed my life, that poor capibara getting mistreated broke my soul and body, I hope to recover someday....

Tetsuo Yajima Is amazing director when come to fighting scene, he also action director for XYZ

Also look at how fast that dusknoir is even without Trick Room

Why are we only talking about the animation? Listen to the voices, sounds and the voice-effects, they're actually so good.

Some people just think "simple" is the same as "bad". The pokémon anime actually has a pretty good animation

My problem with the OG anime was, back before gen 6 they had little to no choreography, and the choreography that was there was heavily explained and slowed the pace of the battles.

What I love about this is that unlike the gen 7-8 Pokemon anime’s, the attacks aren’t just explosions

I am not seeing the "bad animation" here? Sure it isn't the high end of animation, but it was choreographed well enough to showcase the flow of action as well as show how the trainers broke that flow by issuing new commands. Also it caught the energy of the moments very well, so if I were mildly anticipating this fight beforehand, I would be hyped to see the winners next fight against a main character

This is what i wanted to see in journeys. This choreography, this creativeness in battle

Personally i wish we had villains like this in new game's

Its like they are afraid to go back to the old evil team/organization trend

I have never heard someone say Pokemon has bad animation. Some of the stuff I've seen out of context is straight up OD for what was a children's cartoon to me.
