In this video I show a classic way to get distortion by compressing a signal with an 1176 compressor, and how it can be used on bass and vocals without losing definition and adding noise!

I knew already that fast compression can cause distortion in low frequencies but, hey, I have two comments:

-I never verified it by compressing a pure wave and looking at the result. Good idea and very illustrative! That is a kind of seal of your channel, showing this kind of things.
-I didn’t know or didn’t see the possibility that this could be used as effect. Great technique!

Only slightly off topic, it needs to be understood more widely that all compressors possess the ability to cause this type of distortion when not set properly. I hear this all the time in home mixes and self-mastered demos and see too little mention and explanation. Thanks for addressing this, Lane.

Nice love it, is Cubase's Vintage Compressor plugin similar to the 1176 ?

I find it difficult to hear any difference on the vocals
