That the laser razor ran off of a single AAA cell, and for _50 000_ hours, should have been the end of it. Some people just can't do basic math.

I feel like if you’ve invented a device that can draw air from fucking water kickstarter would be the last place you’d be.

It is a weird time when the commercials that sold products for 19.99 were more reliable than most products on kickstarter

Never let the reality of physics get in the way of a good kickstarter.

I think my favourite one of these scams was the cicret bracelet, that was supposed to project a cell phone onto your arm

The Skarp one is hilarious. You are not going to put any laser capable of cutting through body hair anywhere near your eyes if StyoPyro's videos of lasers are any indication.

Just a quick thing about SCUBA regulators; they don't regulate mixture, they regulate pressure so the compressed air doesn't blow out your lungs. Normal compressed air is used up to a couple hundred feet of depth, not pure oxygen. Though enriched air is used on deeper dives.

I love how a safety razor is literally just a better Skarp cause it actually works almost exactly how it was advertised (close shaves, cheap blades, no plastic necessary)

I feel like Indiegogo knowingly and willingly harbors these scammers

Kickstarter scams are basically something anyone can do just depends on your moral compass

UAV stands for "unmanned" areial vehicle, not "unarmed". Military UAVs can especially be very armed.

The fontus one KILLS me. Can't believe people funded that.

So I was a backer for this thing called the Vacuum Snap, a desktop vacuum former for hobbyists and crafters, they had a good looking prototype and it could be yours for $400, and it met it's goal.

A month before they were supposed to ship out, shit hit the fan and the campaign updates blew up, from the original creator of the campaign telling everyone it was a scam the whole time and urging people to get a refund. As it turns out, it was a Chinese company that had hired him to create a campaign and use him as a patsy while they ran with the money. The rants in the update page are still up, they are absolute chaos

Do people know so little about lasers that they thought a 1.5V AAA battery will power something that can not only cut hair but lasts for 50, 000 hours?

When I was studying design, all my teachers and classmates were in awe with the promise of Scribble, the color picking pen. I'm not smart, but I could smell the scam just by looking.
By the shape and size of the tool it was clearly possible that you couldn't have a scanning mechanism, a paint mixer system and enough paint to mix and create colors in a teeny tiny pen. I had classmates funding Scribble. Too good I never gave any money to that.

I remember almost 10 years ago, I donated to a kickstarter for my then-favorite singer (I don’t like him anymore) to fund him to make his EP independently. The only prizes given out were ones who backed the ones for signed pictures he drew, which was a quarter of the backers. There were a few who backed prizes that were in the hundreds or thousands of dollars. No EP. And no mention of it publicly on the project update or at all since summer 2015. For years and up to now, I don’t want my prize (A package that costed me $94, which included a CD), I want answers. It’s just so frustrating.

Falling for Kickstarter scams is like falling for "hot milf in your area" ads

Another one worth discussing is Dreamworld, an MMO that is impossible to achieve with current technology. The game got funded, and today lurches from broken update to broken update.

The thing people need to understand about Kickstarter is that it's not a mall. You're not buying something. You're investing in something. And just like any investments, it could be a scam, it could be a good idea that flops, it could be a whole bunch of things. That is the nature of an investment.

The Zano drone's promised features are actually real now. Crazy how quickly technology improves.
