Once again, I am convinced that what looks good in animation will almost always look unnatural in a live adaptation. I remember all the anime adaptations that I've seen where people with cartoon hairstyles and makeup look extremely funny and frivolous.

The beauty of it becomes plasticine with the imperfections and nuances stripped away. So many of the characters in the original are beautiful for their flaws and eccentricities. Even how tired jinx looks in the original was part of the charm. The fact that she was so young and looked so worn thin. Also the acting in the show leaned towards the slight grit of real faces. Pinches and creases of pain. A kind of desaturated realism. Very cool but it feels so empty.
