Serious props to Powder's voice actress. The way she's able to mimic the sound of straining to talk through the lump in your throat while sobbing and gasping is spot on. Most adult actresses can't even channel this. This girl is a prodigy.

The most crushing thing here is the fact that both of their reactions are completely excusable, this is just such an utterly horrible situation, and they're both basically children...

It cuts so deep when you realize it's a mirror of Vander and Silco's past. It especially hit me when jinx said that "she's not my sister anymore, " and Silco glances over at Vander and reassures jinx that he will show "them".

The voice acting and animation definitely captured a child's uncontrollable crying in a way I don't think I've ever seen in an animation. The stumbling over words, limited sentences, and trembling/minor flinches in Powder's arms and body are a tremendous capturation of a child in emotional torment. Wonderfully done, Riot.

At 1:29 Powder stops crying for a second and puts her arm in defense when Vi stands up, thinking she would hit her again, nice detail

it hits harder knowing that vi probably realized what she'd done after hitting powder and separated herself from the situation to avoid her worsening it 😭 and once she recollects herself and sees silco standing over powder and tries to save her, she's pulled away, leaving powder to forever remember that moment as vi "abandoning" her 😭😭😭

1:55 That voice crack is just too realistic to hear especially when someone is in pain.

I swear emotional trauma doesn't get enough attention in mainstream media. This show just goes all out and it hits deep. Act 1 was 10/10.

At 1:30 you can see Powder covering herself, because she thought Vi will hit her again. That's why she didn't run after her and was just pleading and crying, she was scared. Damn, this show is so good!

"I...I didn't...I was saving you..." That line has hurt me more than I ever expected. It's the last vestiges of Powder's optimism, her hopefulness that she'd actually done something right...even seeing Vander lying dead behind Vi, she has to hold onto that, has to believe that her success in finally getting her bomb to work was a good thing. Then she sees Claggor's goggles, spattered with his own blood. And she realizes that no, this wasn't a good thing. This was a TERRIBLE thing. In her efforts to save her family, she had *killed* them. And she finally breaks down. This girl is NINE years old according to Jinx's Arcane VA. Shit hurts, man.

Jesus Christ this shit absolutely crushed me. The performance and animation of both vi and jinx was good, conveys so much pain. After I saw it I had to make a minute cause it really got to me. I felt so bad for both of them.

It's crazy how good the voice acting is. Like damn. I've heard a lot of English VAs in so many dub animes but goddamn this is the single best one I've ever heard. It's so real. And that's hard to pull off.

As someone who’s worked with kids. The “I only wanted to help” animation and VO broke me instantly.

everything went so horribly wrong. Vi ALWAYS told Powder that she is ready, she can do it, always supported her, encouraged her. she was that pillar that Powder needed. but this one time Vi told her "you're not ready". and everything went in the worst way possible: the bomb, had it not exploded, it did perfect: it distracted that freak long enough: the wall was breached, Vander was freed. but the bomb DID explode, and that one chance for everyone to escape disappeared. Vi's own pillar, her mentor, her adopted father, was gone, with her friends. she was broken, she could not support Powder through this. this seeming betrayal and abandonment, added to Powder's already mental frailness, gave birth to Jinx. what a sad origin story :(

It's been almost a day and I'm still not over this scene. Poor Powder, poor Vi.

"Warwick struggled to recall a single memory from his past... All he could see was blood. But then he heard a little girl screaming. Screaming something he couldn’t understand. It sounded like a name."

Holy shit holy shit holy shit

Vi looking at the blood on the inside of her hand feels significant to me. She compares it to the blood on her fists through combat, and you can tell she’s affected that the open hand that she could have offered to powder is now stained with her blood. This episode was amazing.

Powder’s last scream of “VIOLET” then the soft “please” was gut wrenching. You know she mustered up her remaining strength to try and convince Vi not to leave her again. The poor, scared, tormented child was captured so immaculately down every single detail. Made me really feel helpless. GG Well Played Riot.
