Helping the World to Breathe Video Series: Improving Access to Care and Reducing Health Inequalities

The Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan focuses on respiratory disorders and critical illnesses (conditions such as shock, respiratory failure, and multiple organ failure).

Part of the Helping the World to Breathe Video Series created for the American Thoracic Society (ATS), this video highlights the initiatives that University of Michigan Health is executing to address the respiratory needs of patients and their families. Faculty in this video discuss:

· The groundbreaking research in oxygen assessment that is breaking down barriers to healthcare inequalities

· Partnering with startup companies to test a unique delivery and ventilation system for home use, such as the first portable multi-function ventilator, combining ventilation, oxygen, and drug delivery in one device

· The use of innovative diagnostic imaging technologies — parametric response mapping — that is now being applied to patients across the globe
