We were shocked and saddened to hear the news of John Blackwell’s passing. John holds a special place in our hearts at Drumeo. He was one of the first special guests to come give a lesson and truly believed in our message of sharing the love of drumming and music.

This is John’s drum solo from that session. An incredible display of technique, musicianship, and discipline. He will be missed.

Even as a drummer who mainly played to Technical Death Metal and Deathcore, John Blackwell was always a large inspiration to me after seeing him on the artists page on drummerworld back in 2006, his use of limb independance is fantastic, outside of this video as well I loved his groove, he knew most importantly how to play for the song as first priority, rest in peace you legend.

Words can’t describe his technique, ability, feel, groove, talent and the list goes on for how good John was on the drum. He was so chill and down to earth as well. RIP man you are forever missed.

John, you're one of my fav players. Always cool, relaxed and focused.

I got your 1st dvd when it came out. . after I saw you with Prince in 2000 in Dallas and that remains to this day my fav concert ever. Your style and showmanship was second to none. Ive never seen anything like that in drumming. Pure groove, power, pocket and lotsa surprises... You did things in a way that were your own. You will always be one of the greatest of musicians, not just drummers. . Im still so sad you're not here, along with that other great and rare legend....Every 4th of July, I will remember one more great American hero.

In 2002 I met John at the very front of the stage after Princes performance @Manchester Apollo, he was very young and very sound, he shook our hands and thanked us all for coming! Both John and Prince were outstanding together and he was my favourite Prince drummer along with Michael B (Michal Bland) the fact these 2 genius are no longer with us is a loss to us all who love music. ❤ 🎵 🥁
