Thank you so much for this in depth video!
One thing I always find difficult with Muay Thai style kicks is throwing them in a shadow boxing scenario (where I am not hitting anything). When I’m throwing with power it’s hard to just stop the pivot at 90 degrees without putting strain on the knee of the standing leg. It’s easier to spin nearly all the way around (like a lot of people are first taught) but I know that isn’t a good idea

My Krav Maga coach who is also a Hapkido master told us "don't kick and punch like Muay Thai"

My kickboxing coach a Kyokushin instructor demonstrated the power of Kyokushin Karate kick by chambering the knee and snapping out the kick. The impact of the kick was so powerful! He explained that the chambering of the knee already store up power on its own. The Kyokushin roundhouse kick is preferrred for its speed, strength, less telegraphic and more natural (to chamber the knee). It is not necessary to chamber the knee for a low roundhouse kick though.

I did Taekwondo. It's been a long time, but I think I recall being trained to follow through with ny kicks.

Nice! I notice that you demonstrate the TKD round house kick more as a karate style kick. The raise of the upper leg you do is like I did in Shotokan where it's at an angle vs TKD, the upper leg rise is straight, then snaps around. As far as the pivot, that's to help open the hip to get power into the kick and to help prevent injury to our joint sockets, especially as we get older - similar to what you describe about pivoting your base foot only 90* at 6:14. As you say, the over pivot is not good and people that do that are not understanding how to kick properly and opening their flank. The only time I have my students have their heel pointed to the opponent is for a side kick, spinning back kick or hook kick. That again, helps to open the hip for proper movement, allow for the hip to exert force forward and snap around so that there's more body mass behind the kick. Bill Wallace, Bruce Lee, Jean Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins and Chuck Norris were always good at that.

I like at 4:31 how you point out that it's not really good to kick and evade vs block, counter, return. The latter starts to move into the realm of close quarter combat fighting similar to Wing Chun, jungle style, military training.

At 7:27, you finish extending your muay thai style kick. Bruce Lee had coined the phrase, "Dragon snapping it's tail" which is what you're doing! Love it! We use the analogy of snapping a wet towel when explaining kicks and punches. The end of the strike is like getting hit with the end of a wet towel. Ouch!

Keep up the great work!

Don't see the point in doing those Taekwondo kicks in full contact martial arts. In point style fighting its ok, but if you want to hurt someone put yout weight and rotation in it.

TKD kick = fast kick, low damage and give you a little bit space
Muay Thai Kick = High damage, kick slower then TKD, breaking opponent's bone and dead 😂😂😂
📌Practice both for use according to the situation📌

I like to combine karate and muay thai roundkick into 1 technique.
