While the ASUS ROG Ally X an “Ally 2” - it introduces several smaller yet significant hardware upgrades that make it a far more reliable and refined Windows gaming handheld system that pretty much fixes everything I didn’t like about the original. With more RAM, a battery that’s twice as large, improved thermals, better IO and more, there’s a lot to get excited about with the $799 Ally X.

Are you excited for the Ally X or holding off for an Ally 2?

Would prefer it to be 16X10 to fill in more of the bezel. The actual cost delta is $200, since the one you showed is the non Extreme version.

Lets not lie the normal ally blows steam deck oled out the water on newer aaa games like dd2 - the deck cant even play it over 15-25 frames and i was getting 50+ on my ally - the x will hopefully improve it even more

Man I wish the screen was a tad bigger. You have me interested in the MSI Claw 8 AI.

Honestly, the discount on the orginal ally extreme is more appealing. For my use case it'll often have access to a plug, so the current one hour of portable game play isn't a huge issues.

Ally X or Zotac Zone...hmm 🤔

I'm leaning more towards the Zotac honestly due to the symmetrical stick positions, dual track pads, usb 4 ports on top and bottom, hall effect sticks and triggers, the adjustable triggers, the scroll wheels around the sticks, the camera, and of coarse the amoled screen.

The three things that Asus has over Zotac here are battery life, more ram, and this not being their first handheld pc. Other than that, I'm really thinking Zotac may have Asus beat here imho. We'll see if these devices really are as good as they are on paper...

I wouldn't call them small upgrades. i think this is a pretty significant update to the device. I would even be willing to pay a bit more if it had an OLED display. I think that is the only thing that is missing to put it firmly ahead of all other handhelds.

2 hours of battery life at max power like the steam deck, man’s I’m gonna be waiting a long time for these handhelds to have 4 hour battery life minimum like the switch oled.

Also the screen size needs to be bigger, the steam deck oled and ally’s screen is too small. Needs to be 8 inches or more and detachable controls imo.

They’re probably gonna do what the steam deck did and do a revision 6 months to a year later and do it with OLED screen and bump it up

About the customer support, anyone had any problems here in Europe? I had nothing but great experiences over here in Sweden.
Or is it just a problem in US?

It doesn't fix the non-hall effect sticks. There's still reports of people losing the left stick up and down, and the right stick drifting to the left (which I had). If they were hall effect this wouldn't be an issue.

Except the customer service experience.

I'm curious how much tdp can be increased to have similar battery life as the predecessor.
