What is the difference between the soul and spirit of man?

What is the difference between the soul and spirit of man? Is the spirit part of the soul, or are the two entirely separate?

From what I simply understand and believe is that first we are a spirit, made in the image of God, you have a soul (mind, will and emotions) and live in a body ( our earth suit that is used to get around and do God’s will until He calls us home for those who are in Christ Jesus.

My understanding is we are spirits that live in a body and we have a soul. Ecclesiastes 12:7 says: "For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to GOD WHO gave it." And Job 34:14-15 says: "If GOD were to take back HIS SPIRIT and withdraw HIS breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust." 1 Thessalonians 5:23 says: "Now may The GOD of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our LORD JESUS CHRIST comes again." And GOD said in Genesis 1:26, "Let US make people in OUR image, to be like OURSELVES." And John 4:24 says: "For GOD is a SPIRIT..." Job 32:8, "Surely it is GOD'S SPIRIT within people, the breath of The ALMIGHTY within them, that makes them intelligent." Consider 1 Timothy 5:16, "But the widow who lives only for pleasure is spiritually dead." A dead spirit is still a spirit. And the warning GOD gave to Adam in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2:17, "...If you eat of this fruit, you will surely die." Adam's spirit died when he disobeyed GOD. And GOD said in Ezekiel 37:26-27, "And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new SPIRIT in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new obedient heart. And I will put MY SPIRIT in you so you will obey MY laws and do whatever I command." And Ephesians 2:5, "that even while we were dead because of our sins, HE gave us life when HE raised CHRIST from the dead..." And Colossians 3:3, "For you died when CHRIST died, and your real life is hidden with CHRIST in GOD." CHRIST'S death was one of substitution. HE took our place on the cross. HE paid the ultimate penalty for our crimes. And thus GOD fulfilled HIS desire to make man in HIS image. Luke 20:24-25, "Show ME a Roman coin. Whose picture (image) and title (name) are stamped (inscribed) on it?" "Ceasar's, " they replied. "Well then, " HE said, "give to Caesar what belongs to him. But everything that belongs to GOD must be given to GOD." 2 Corinthians 3:3, "Clearly you are a letter from CHRIST prepared by us. It is written not with pen and ink, but with The SPIRIT of The LIVING GOD. It is carved not on stone, but on human hearts."

If anyone is still confused... The soul is the *living person, * not an entity version of one self within your physical body. The spirit is the energy you feel. A cheerleader has a lot of spirit—she has a lot of [energy].

Good job! I have asked many believers and followers of Christ which part of them actually got born again and the answers were and still are shocking today. Christ and the scriptures teach us on this matter with such accuracy that there's no reason to be ignorant on the topic. After all to know the difference between when one is thinking soulish or spiritual is whole duty for the followers of Yeshua until His return. To simplify...the soul is our own identity and freewill while the spirit of man is his conscience his God likeness ...so which part is born again ? ..your soul or your spirit (conscience) ?...got it ? ....all praises to the Most High .

So by definition ALL Humans have a Soul and Spirit, but only Christians have an 'Active' Spirit. OK, ...What is the definition of 'Spirits', as opposed to the Spirit of Man. The reason why I'm asking is b/c there are definitely 'Spirits', but not all are Divine (e.g. Heavenly Host). So what exactly is the definition of a 'Spirit'?

You don't have a soul. You are a NEPHESH, a living, breathing creature. The spirit RUACH is the life force which God imparts to every living person and which returns to Him at death.
As Acts 17:25 plainly states, in the words of Paul,
speaking of God, "...He gives to all LIFE, BREATH (Pneuma) and all things."
Man is mortal! Only God is IMMORTAL!
