Bangladesh After Sheikh Hasina LIVE: Who Will Take Charge Now? | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Tensions continue to escalate in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country yesterday. This comes weeks after the reinstatement of the controversial job quota system stirred violent protests across the country. The army has taken over in Bangladesh and the President has dissolved the Parliament, promising that the elections will held soon. Yesterday, the President also announced the release of all jailed protesters, including Sheikh Hasina's arch rival and Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Following Sheikh Hasina's ouster, Bangladesh's army chief, General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced the formation of an interim government. However, he is yet to announce the head of this interim government.

Though the violence has now subsided in the country, the student unrest continues. The student protesters want Nobel Laureate, Dr Muhammad Yunus to be in-charge of the country. Dr Yunus won the peace prize in 2006 for his micro-loans programme in Bangladesh. Reportedly, he could serve as a chief adviser to the government. On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma tells you more.

What's with Islam and violence and others calling it a symbol of peace?

Today I am so happy that I can't describe it.
In 1947, my grandfather had fled from there after the Bhairav Pool incident. There was a railway bridge named Bhairav Pool over the Bhairav River in East Pakistan. In the month of November 1947, a mail express was going through which all the Hindus were on board. The train was full of hindu children, old men and women and among them there were riotous murderous boys of the Muslim League whose REGIONAL leader was SHEIKH MUZIBUR REHEMAN (the Bengali version of Mohammad Ali Jinnah) and who were impossible to recognize separately in the train. As soon as the engine of the train was about to leave the bridge, someone from the Muslim League pulled the chain and the entire train stopped on the bridge so that no one could escape and then the murderous muslim league cadres started killing all the Hindu passengers. When everyone was killed, the train was set on fire. Not only the bodies of all the women, children and old people were burnt, but the murderers of the Muslim League who were involved in it were also burnt to ashes because when the whole train was grabbed by fire, the escape route was closed for them too. My grandfather at his 26 was supposed to be in that train but he missed his train and he was saved. When this news spread on the radio, my grandmother, knowing herself to be a widow, sat near the lake behind our house in Sylhet for the whole night so that Her husband's body came and he could be cremated but he came back alive. Then, carrying my uncle in their arms, she and my grandmother both came to India.

Now they will face the downfall slowly as Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Why do u say only Minorities. Why not make a bold statement- Hindus and Christian minority. To the world's ears and especially Indian ears minority means muslims only.

Yesterday Palki called Bangladesh riots as people's rise against authorities. Now she identified them as mob!
Too late to recognise the problem.
Pathetic journalism, Vantage team.
Have some guts to call the spade a spade.

Where is all eyes and protests in the western world for that matter in India nobody speaks for Hindus. What is worse is that Hindus themselves don't speak for themselves 😢

All eyes on Bangladeshi Hindus 🕉
Their persecution is barbaric and needs to be addressed

The main concern or reason is the behind fleed of Sheikh Hasina & death of many Awamileague activists brutally is the verdicted of war criminals of 1971 war or leaders of Jamat-Islami. 2nd reason is the conviction of noble loriate Dr. Md. Younus. Last but not the least, the regime change game plan designed by the US. For own benefits, US needs to put their trusted representative in the top of the power.
