Scooter scam is very common and one way to avoid is renting a used scooter with more scratches, I know we all want to ride new cool looking bikes and scooters but if you do, be ready to pay premium price for any scratches it may have or get. When renting be upfront and point out all the scratches and damages the scooter has. You can also take video of the scooter for your proof

I live in Jakarta as foreigner, didn't get scammed once, yah people try to but im not fool to let it happen, than again Jakarta has less tourists compared to Bali, in the end bali is overrated as of today, go to lombok, Sulawesi more peace in there.

We had a really unpleasant experience at Baisakih temple. As we were walking towards the temple a group of local goons threatened us we won't be allowed beyond that point unless we take one of their guides. We were warned about such scam by our home stay owner cum the driver who drove us to the temple. We were a group of 6 women.They wanted to charge us exorbitant amount for the guide. We kept walking towards the temple but two of the gang members walked ahead of us and literally guarded the main door so we could not enter the temple. We just walked around the temple cause that is all we could do. It is so sad we were bullied even in the house of Gods. That was in 2017. I guess it hasn't changed. Why can't local Government do something to stop this bullying practise. It is harassment and paints really unpleasant picture of Bali. Here is my honest Government and Temple administration is hands in gloves with these extorters. I am 100 percent sure they get their cuts from these bullies. Shame on them.

Not only bali, other cities have scammers too in that country. This is due to lack of integrity in the education system. Secondly, poverty due to a large population. They came and work in my country and bring all their bad attitudes like house breaking and murders.

I never had bad experiences with indonesian police, border security or forever, they are very nice, maybe you did something, wrong, they are never ask for money. Exactly police, this is a big crime in Indonesia.
