As a Vietnamese, I am ashamed of these scams toward mostly tourist. On their behalf, I apologized from the bottom of my heart and hopefully the goods outweighed the bad experiences.

I have a house in Da Nang and have spent 5 years on and off in Vientam including 3 year continuous stay and I would say Da Nang is one of the safest places on earth to live. Maybe because I'm street savvy and speak a bit of Vietnamese I have not experienced being scammed on money or change etc. And I feel pretty confident using my mobile phone anywhere while out and about.

Regarding motorbike rental, and any other situation really, you should avoid handing over your passport to someone. There are motorbike shops that will take cash deposits or if you're going to be there several months, buy a bike. Once you hand over your passport, you put yourself in a really bad spot. If you've handed over USD $200 deposit on a bike the worst that can happen is you're out $200. Not being able to get your passport back becomes a much more complicated situation.

I really liked Vietnam when I was there, but being constantly targeted for scams is very off putting!

Hi, thank you for this great video! I'm Vietnamese and thanks to your video, I will not be visiting my country ever. With all these scams and dishonesty, I don't know why would anyone even bother to visit. You have my respect and I salute you for going through these experiences!

Sorry that you had to go through all of these. I sincerely hoped they changed because of many years of opening the country for tourism but it is still very much the same. Still shake my head, swallow the shame and continue to

This made Danang sound like a theme park. Its sad... Reminded me of my first 2 visits in Vietnam. I felt like everyone was just waiting to ripp off tourist. I was just very uncomfortable with locals especially in the train stations. For a long time, I only eat at KFC because i hate being ripped off. But after a few visits, I love Vietnam.

If someone returns with counterfeit notes - do not touch them. Ask for a plastic bag and put them in a plastic bag and tell them you will take them to the police for forensic checking ie fingerprints. This should quickly sort out the problem in this case.

I travel alone, twice yearly, to Danang and Hoi an, and apart from the odd Taxi trying to charge too much, I haven’t had any other problems

0:39 If the menus aren’t kept on the table, seems like taking a picture of the menu you’re ordering from would be a good idea.

I've been in Da Nang for less than 1 week and I got the wrong change 3 times. I thought it was in my head, but I came looking for a video and ended up finding yours. Thanks for the alert. Now I'll be smarter.

* Here's a scam to avoid. When you get in a taxi, keep your luggage in the backseat with you, not in the trunk.
If your luggage is in the trunk, when you get to your destination, the driver can demand more money before he'll open the trunk and return your luggage to you.
This happened to me in Poland. *

I travelled to Hanoi with my 2 children- one in a wheelchair. We had to use a taxi at the last minute and the guy had a meter. He then locked us in the car with the meter being rigged . In the end a really short trip cost us a fortune. I found some (not all) of the Vietnamese took advantage of people in wheelchairs. So be mindful of this
