NBC’s senior medical correspondent Dr. John Torres joins TODAY to discuss Bob Saget’s cause of death, which his family says was accidental head trauma. He describes the differences in symptoms from a simple bump on the head to something more serious, and the telltale signs to look for including headaches, vision disturbance, dizziness, nausea and confusion. “There can be subtle signs that build up over time,” Dr. Torres says.

Working with a children at a Preschool I have always been taught to never allow a child to take a nap if they accidentally hit their head, call parents right away and write a incident report. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't realize how serious hurting your head can be.

In all the news about this no one (a Dr.) has not mention DO NOT GO TO SLEEP after you hit your head) I was always told after a hit on the head you don't go to sleep. If he stayed awake longer he could have felt how bad it was and got some help. R.I.P. Bob.

Thank you for sharing this video and bringing head traumas to light.
5 years out with a TBI and I've been getting worse. It's a lonely existence living with a TBI.
Again, thank you for sharing this.

If u are alone, let someone know so that they can check on you because if you start getting symptoms and you’re alone; I could be over before you realize it.

As a retired nurse when i heard this my heart just ached, it may have been prevented, in adults their brains don’t have room to swell, the Witt’s part is that he fell asleep, when one hits their head they shouldn’t sleep for many hours, he must have fallen and hit his head quite hard, it’s just tragic .

back when I was 17, got hit in the head by soccer ball by my classmates as they purposely kicked it over the fence when they're not suppose to. since then I had trouble walking, kept vomiting till I lost my leg muscle which majority thought I was trying to lose weight as I was fat shamed by my classmates right before these happened. slowly my memory getting poor as I couldn't remember my way home after school. got bullied by my class and it got worse. so after that year I didnt further my studies as I couldn't remember whatever my teacher taught and stayed at home ever since then as I was trying to walk normally as I was dealing with weak leg muscle which was soft like jelly. which luckily after a year I walked normally. my doctor kept saying she's sure I have brain tumour. nine years have past and recently was told by my doctor I have pituitary gland issue not brain tumour. few weeks later while I was going up the stairs to the mall and I stepped onto my wide leg pant which I slipped and fall, nearly hit the handle railings as I remember I didnt hit my head but when I got up, my forehead was red and swelling. and about few weeks later I remember what exactly happened nine years ago, I remember exactly how my head got hit, and before that I got hit in my eye and my private area. which kinda explains why I have thyroid and lack of female hormones for the past nine years. seems like I have head trauma or brain injury

I'm just wondering how serious this is cuz my primary doctor did nothing after I fainted. My pcp asked y I needed to see a neurologists? Definitely switching doctors cuz she didn't refer me to a neurologists or anything 🤨 but the ER gave me an iv of fluids.

I nearly died from a head injury while inadvertently riding a malfunctioning scooter in the early 2000s, it was bad. You get dizzy, you start to forget, everything goes black, then it goes back to normal and the headaches are horrible too. Luckily my family rescued me in time (it was my fault for not wearing a helmet, I was a silly kid). My family told me never to sleep because people who hit their heads don't really know if your inner wound is worse than you think. I went to my doctor (that same day) and he also told me the same thing: “If you accidentally hit your head badly, go to the emergency room with a family member or call 911.” But never fall asleep. My heart really breaks and I’m so sorry.

I had a car wreck a year ago and suffered head injury. I was in the front seat and my neck and nerves on the back of my head are distorted/ dislocated and I go chiropractor. I have headaches, light headache and sometimes dizzy and nausea. They did a CT scan all over head, chest, abdomen and all was clear. But I have a lot of anxiety and think other things. Why after a year I still have this headaches 😫

I remember reading the actress Mary Frann who played Bob Newhart's wife on the show Newheart died in her sleep at age 55- her autopsy also showed trauma to her head which surprised me. I thought maybe both actors slipped and fell in the shower and hit their head, got up quickly and never gave it a second thought. That's why Bob's room was undisturbed- he thought he was fine, he was tired and went to sleep. Mary went to sleep and was found dead in the morning by her boyfriend. Very tragic fir both of them. It's not in our nature to think late at night when all we want to is go to sleep but neither realized this was serious and they would never wake up again.

but what about the treatment options, would have been good to hear more on that.

I had slide on an iced Dr’s surgery’s pathway to their entrance and the Dr didn’t even have medication for my bleeding scull nor examined if it’s bleeding.! She told me to go home take a panadol and lay down. I took a panadol and rang my son to help me go to the hospital. The Dr’s receptionist called a Taxi but taxi never came!

I bumped my head on the corner of a kitchen wall cabinet around 18 months ago. It had not
healed, so I went to see my Doctor around a year ago, and she sent me for an "Urgent" 2 week
Biopsy. But so much has happened in the last year, my Mother Dying in a Nursing Home,
and me having to move out, that I have had to put my life on hold. Recently, the hole in my
head has got bigger, with blood and a clear liquid coming from it. I has dressed it everyday
with a sterile sticking plaster, but the problem persists. I have Balance Issues, and have
fallen a few times, is this something I should be concerned with?
