Heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S. And, even though chest pain is a common symptom, it's not the only symptom of a heart attack. Women often have more subtle symptoms, which can easily be overlooked.

Every year 735,000 Americans have heart attacks and over 7,000,000 people die worldwide from heart attacks every year. A heart attack occurs when the blood flow, or the supply of oxygen, to a coronary artery is blocked or stopped. When this happens, you no longer have the proper oxygen for the heart tissue, that heart tissue dies, and you have a myocardial infarction or a heart attack. When you get a myocardial infarction, it usually occurs due to fatty deposits or atherosclerotic plaques in the coronary arteries. It can also occur when there is a heart artery spasm that blocks the blood supply or if there is a dissection in that coronary artery.

1. Chest Pain

Had a heart attack in 2012. Months before I had cold sweats. Shortness of breath was going on for a couple months. Had a lot of stress and sleeplessness during that time so I assumed it was related. Went camping with my daughter and woke up with stabbing chest pain at 3AM. (Friday evening) Drove my daughter and I towards a hospital. Belched several times and felt better. Went home and to bed. By Sunday night I felt terrible and out of breath. Thought it was just bad gas and toughed it out all night in a recliner. Monday morning I got up and showered and headed to a clinic. They did an EKG (Also known as an ECG) and told me to go to the hospital. It was 2 miles away, so I drove myself. I had 99% blockage in my LAD. Two stents later I was in ICU. Lost half the function of that part of the heart. Six months later and 50 pounds lighter, God had restored my heart to normal. 🙌🙌🙌😇🙌🙌🙌

Had a heart attack 2 years ago on Dec 13 spent 8 days in the hospital had 2 stents. Would wake up in the middle of the night sweating with shortness of breath major exertion doing minor activities I didn't understand that I was having a heart attack. I got so weak and started throwing up and had diarrhea I couldn't control I just wanted to sleep my family rushed me to the ER they told them that if I had went to sleep I wouldn't of made it through the night. My daughter told me later that I flat lined twice in the ER and once in the OR. I'm truly blessed to be here. God is good ya'll. Givin God all the Glory. We never know when our next breath is gonna be our last. Are you saved? If you died? Where would you spend your eternity? It's your decision and your choice. Decide and choose wisely. Be safe and be blessed ya'll. ❤

You can also feel distressed. Wanting to cry. You know something is wrong but you can't describe it.

I have had panic attacks and would go to the hospital only for them to be rude to me. So I stopped going. One day thinking it was just another panic attack and I did not want to be a Nuisance. I refused to go to the hospital. Saying it will pass, but My husband made me go. I was going into cardiac arrest due to very low potassium level. He knew it was more than panic. But the sad thing is that I didn't want to go because of my treatment in the past with my panic attacks. Thank the good lord for my husband.

I’m 46 years old. Had a minor heart attack two months ago. I had chest pain, shortness of breath and nausea. I didn’t know I was having a heart attack. I thought maybe it was the breakfast we ordered in (greasy food). It was a client I was about to sell life insurance to, who made me go to the hospital. Do not ignore the signs that Dr. Rita has spoken about. Be safe. ❤

Had heart attack 3 week's ago, felt like a really bad gas on my chest, that happened around 3:00 am, tough was just gas, drink a soda, didn't help, went for walk around 4 am, made even worse, left my house around 6am, stop at cas and got some gas pills, drove an hour to get to work, and luckily stop at the hospital on my way in, once I started to walk into to emergency room, felt really diase, and 5 minutes later found my self with 💯 clogged , almost went to the other side.
Ps.
I had the same symptoms 3 week's prior (chest pain but felt like was gas)
I'm 50 years old, good shape with no family history at all.
Just be cautious friends!

I had big balls of sweat that no one saw i felt so wet and sick. I was at work went home to a quiet place felt better. Once I woke up with bad pain in middle of my chest fell on the floor crawled. I was ok in about 5min or less. Never did go to hospital. Dr. Said I had 2 mild heart attacks. I had lots of test later and I had a lots of scares on my heart tissues because growing up I had palpitations that happened. Then another Doctor said I didn't have a heart attack no scares I believe Jesus healed me before I went to him. Thank you Jesus for healing. I am female.

I had a silent heart attack in 2009 at 45. I didn't find out about it until 3 months later. Sending love light Golden health and prosperity to all of us heart attack survivors. ✨️😊💛

Yes, panic attacks exactly mimic a heart attack. I went to the ER twice for that many years ago. How cruel life can be. 🥵 Praise almighty God for our blessings. Greetings from Evergreen, Montana.

Don’t ignore any symptoms. Go to the hospital right away. I had a heart attack and they found a tear in my heart. I’m now on baby aspirin and blood pressure meds for life. This was truly a eye opener. God is amazing I’m testifying

My symptoms were chest pain, shortness of breath, tingling, a little nausea, a little dizziness. Mostly I felt like crying, I knew something was not right. So now I am on the right meds.

At 59 years old, healthy as bull and in great shape, never any prior issues or health complications of any kind until that early morning, and out of nowhere I started to feel some tremendous pressure all over my chest like I never felt before in my life, it felt like the whole building was sitting on top of my chest, followed by excessive amount of sweating from my head to my toes to the point I was soaked in my own clothing. Not more than 10 minutes have passed and only then I realized that I was in big trouble I need help right away. Luckily it didn’t take long for the ambulance to transfer me to the nearest hospital. Although I had a total blockage in my left heart artery, but the quick reaction and the stent procedure that was performed on me to open that blockage, surely has prevented further complications or any damage to the heart. I consider myself extremely lucky to be here writing about it today. Don’t hesitate or even delay seeking medical help if you ever encounter any of these signs.
