Having a solid understanding of snowboard types will be a big help as you're choosing a new snowboard, and this video gives an introduction to the general purpose behind the design for each type of snowboard. While there are a huge number of snowboards to choose from, and many boards could arguably fit into multiple categories, these are the 5 main design styles to help you think about what is best for you and narrow down your search. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, thanks for watching.

I've been riding 25 years and have 4 boards in my quiver but I still really appreciate these kinds of videos, thanks for doing these vids TJ.

For the ones that are going to start snowboarding:
1. Take all the tips from this vid.
2. Buy used board, used for 1 or 2 seasons - damaging new board is more painfull and spending more will not give you skills - that will only come with a time :)
3. For the money you saved buy good gloves.
4. If you still have money for other purchases buy better clothes that you think will be enough :)
5. Watch guides about good posture on the board - if you want to skip that... Oh God, you will look like you are brain damaged. Keep your board in line with your body, do not counterrotate :)
6. After two seasons buy your brand new, beautifull board that you dreamed off. You should already know what you want to do :)

Smashing review, mate. I dare to say it gave me the good understanding for the plethora of snowboard types. From what I've seen, far more confident what to opt for.
Massive thanks for that concise and competent help out here.

Cheers!

Great content, TJ. I feel like each brand board has there own character/feeling, would love to see u talk abit more for that since u tried so many brands. I find that words like 'stiffer harder' really hard to let the viewer get the feel of the boards. And we arent able to get many demo days. So the way to let audience know each brand difference is really would help a lot when we choose boards. Like im not really a big fan of burton cuz their boards are like thick stiff feel.

Hey TJ, I love how we have the same boards. K2 Manifest for all mountain riding, and the Bataleon Surfer Ltd for the deep days!

I recently started snowboarding and just picked up my first board! Rode several different of my buddies boards, and ended up picking up an all mountain/freestyle board. Cant wait to go back up to the mountain and try it out.

Started off 4 years ago on an all-mountain Burton custom and realised that carving and powder is what gives me the most happiness so after watching your epic Japan trip awhile ago and seeing David's Korua board, I picked up the Korua Pencil but sadly covid ruined my Japow plans this year :(

Got the Burton Custom as my first board. With no prior experience on any board - skate/longboard. Was a bit rough the first few times till i picked it up, and I really needed a good beginner slope, cause in higher speeds the edges were a pain. It's more of a challenge but i love it.
To anyone else who thinks of getting it as your first board, honestly if you can, try the rental ones for the first day or two. If you want to save yourself a bruised ass:D

I used to ride a Gnu Carbon Credit which is an all mountian freestyle board. I absolutely loved that board cause it could do litterally whatever I wanted it to do.

it was a symmetraical twin with fairly soft flex but not super flexy. pretty much in between a medium flex and a soft flex board and it was insanely good to learn on. that board took me from complete beginner to the black diamon jump line doing spins. and it took it no questions asked.

and the best part is that all Gnu boards are signed so you kinda know who built the board, it just so happened that I managed to run into the actual guy that made my snowboard when I traveled to Japan to snowboard. it is interesting how small the world actually is

Just got a bataleon surfer out here in Tahoe it’s soooo much fun and actually decently flexible. A blast in all the powder we’ve been getting but also fun to just go slay tree runs and groomers too
