For those who are too impatient or bad internet:
1. Dual Channel RAM slots
2. A good Power Supply Unit
3. Replace HDD with SSD

I would go as far as saying upgrading to an SSD is the single most important upgrade you can make

SSDs have been the single biggest impact in everyday computing speed in the past few years. Any old laptop immediately feels a thousand times faster if you manage to put an SSD in it!

I still remember the first time I turned on a laptop with an SSD. My first thought was "NOPE, I'm never going back to HDD!"

I installed an ssd on my laptop, it now boots in less than 5 seconds, but the biggest difference is that it loads android studio with a lot of plugins in less than 15 secs, it used to take over 5 mins before the upgrade.
Now cpu became the bottleneck and goes crazy temps for the 15 secs it takes to load android studio.

I build machines for a living and sometimes I forget that a lot of people just dont know these basic things. Everything he said was good advice.

4. Cheap restrictive dust filters everywhere
5. Cheap NVMe heat sink (mostly for looks)
6. Stock to aftermarket cooler

About the SSID this is completely true
I had an old box of a computer which took up to 4 minutes to properly start up where I know spend less than 30 seconds waiting for the startup

Good power supply is no joke. Even if you're one of the "small GPU in an Optiplex" types, which I've recently had to become again, sadly, an old i5, a hard drive, ssd, and a small GPU with no external power connectors is too much for the stock power supply to handle, and it causes very inconsistent performance. Hard drives dropping out, driver crashes, full system lockups.

Every problem went away when I just put my better power supply back in the machine. I assumed I didn't need it for this config, but I did.

I can easily second the SSD upgrade. I just recently got a M.2 SSD for my laptop (which used to only have a 1 TB HDD) and it's wonderful! Only $80 too, for something that will save me so much time and frustration

It doesn’t affect performance, but recently switching to a modular power supply has made me so happy. Getting rid of all that extra cable clutter is so nice.

The hdd to the ssd was so good, usually it took me about 1-2 min to load up Windows but now with an ssd its like 1-2 seconds

Then there is me who hasn't cleaned his build since the day he built it... 8 years ago. (Still kicks ass)

That last one is so true I went from booting on a hdd witch had a boot time of 15 min to a ssd witch brought it down to like 5

Ssd makes so much difference when u have a system on it but hdd is also good for storing games and files, im having no problems running most of my games from hdd, im still gettin same fps, loading times are longer but hey at least you have that precious space on ssd

You forgot the graphics card which makes my PowerPoint presentation to an actual game

Always upgrade from HDD to SSD or SSHD first. It's a sure shot way to treat yourself with an improved performance.
