Ya, your right but all is not lost. I have a video going up on Friday (I think) that tells you how to customize the start menu to be more user friendly. Thanks for your comment.

Good job Steve! This presentation and hopefully more to follow, will make it much easier for me to make the jump to Windows 8. To get the full benefit though, I'm thinking a new touch screen pc will be in my future as well.

Finally. A Windows 8 tutorial that hits my level. Thanks for a clear, non tech speak explanation. I also love your bite size teaching style, just enough to digest at a time. You have a fan!

Amazing. Most of these changes are extremely unlikely to be stumbled upon - at least in combination with having a clue how. And some of them actively fight against showing what's going on (drag to the bottom to close - but it doesn't budge vertically..) Thanks for the guide.

The Mint Interface seems like a friendly and well supported OS. I use Ubuntu on a couple server machine in the shop but these machine are headless and I only see the interface when we rarely need to work on them.

Thank you for the clip, GuruBrew! Personally I hate Windows 8 but I have to deal with it because my customers have started to buy such PCs and I must install our software on it. I was allways completly lost with that new GUI before. And one of my most hated new feature is to be unable to install unsigned drivers :((

What Vista tips would you find helpful?

Acer has some really reasonably priced machines. My advise is to concentrate on the best video card you can get and more ram in the computer is also important. Subscribe to new egg and keep and eye on the deals, they do exist.

I'm serious about Linux. It took me about 2 minutes to understand Linux Mint, It's a free download then burn an ISO with any free ISO burner app or boot from a flash drive, take it for a test run and then decide whether to install it on your hard drive. There are tens of thousands of free apps.
Oh, and Linux Puppy is just fun!

I just got a Win 7 machine this summer. It is really fast as the hardware is much better than Win 7 in 2009. It is nice to see it is easy to learn if need be, but it is still ug-ly! Hopefully, the behind the scenes stuff is similar???

I would avoid getting a machine designed exclusively for Windows 8 like the MS Surface Pro. I would hate to see you locked into a situation like some people had back in the day with Windows ME. I am personally holding out for what comes after 8. Bet it will not be long!

Great video. However, I think this video just convinced me further to never upgrade to Windows 8.
