What does Windows 8 look like and why should you be developing for it?

I totally agree. There should be an option when you turn on the PC to go straight to the desktop screen.

The reason Microsoft is attempting to combine the tablet and PC Operating Systems is to create a larger market for mobile applications. As a developer, it is difficult to create an app for many devices when there are a plethora of coding languages to choose from. Windows is solely based around the .NET framework, whereas Apple's products are based on Java (the universal programming language). If another MOBILE OS is added to this equation, it means that there is now 3 languages to choose from.

Awesome tour! Really shows the features off well.
I think this would be good for windows tablets but defiantly not for computers.

I use allot of hotkeys to do stuff, and when using a internet browser I dock two windows side to side all the time, this is my biggest concern about installing windows 8. On the other hand I heard it has better support for wacom tablets than windows 7... I have a simple wacom pen but I would still wanna see what kind of gimmicks it has

Geez. Calm Down. If you don't like the OS, Don't get it. It's that simple. it was well made. It could use a lot of improvements, settings-wise, but overall it's good.

I have a desktop PC and don't want to put a phone desktop on it. This windows 8 looks like it will hinder typical desktop computer productivity... It looks like it will take so much more time to multitask anything, and the animations between each function would only slow things down. How is this supposed to work with multiple screens? I have 5.. I don't want to look at this phone screen crap when I have several feet of screen for viewing detail.

my thoughts on windows this is the worst absolute worst thing ever to any computer. i just bought a new desktop from hp 2 days ago and i am returning it in the morning.     i can look at my email but anyone else in the family cannot look at there email.   and add accounts?!?!  impossible!!  it goes back and im buying an apple.  f microsoft.

So much wasted space (metro, windows explorer shortcuts, etc)...I can't imagine how inefficient I would be trying to use this with a desktop; clearly meant for touchscreen only. The idea of searching while covering up your entire desktop is dreadful.

If metro was designed for tablets nd phones why is it on xbox and desktops nd laptop it really makes no sense nd microsoft is gonna be hurt by this in the long run
