In this video, we explain how Medicare works when you become eligible for Social Security Disability. Typically you have to be age 65 + to get Medicare, but this is an exception to the rule. When you get Medicare under 65, you may not have the same options as if you were 65 depending on the rules in your state.

I also have had family that applied and denied for years when trying to get disability. They eventually got approved but it was so arduous! I think they got a lawyer at some point.

Does anything change once they turn 65 if they got Medicare prior to turning 65?

Im in my 50's and I just got SS Disability. im in NY. I have great zero cost insurance with drug benefits for life from my previous employer. The more I look into the Medicare plans I dont see a reason to go into any plan other that Plan A because I simply dont need It. When Im 65 I can choose again ?

My wife is on SSDI ( 21 years) I’ve always kept her on my private ins. With my employer. If I switched her to straight Medicare A&B do you think I could buy/ afford a supplement ? We live in Georgia.
