Ginger beer starts with a ginger bug. In this video Erica from FarmSteady walks you through growing your own ginger bug so you can make ginger beer and naturally fermented sodas at home. Much like a sourdough starter you use the ginger bug to cultivate wild yeasts and jump start your fermented drinks.

I have procrastinated doing a ginger buck cuz it seems so tedious and complicated. You made it so simple and so neatly, taking very little space and very little time. I greatly appreciate you inspiring me to do my first batch of ginger bug.

Thank you great video! When storing in the fridge, can you put a sealed lid on it? Will I need to burp it if not using often? Oh ya... new subscriber here!

Would you ever add more water to the bug to make it last longer? Or would you just create a new one as you run out of usable liquid?

I'm ready to make my first ginger bug and your video is great! I'm going to sub to your channel shortly as well.
Yesterday I made homemade root beer with brewer's yeast but I got to wondering if I could use a ginger bug in it instead? Would this be possible?
Thanks much for making this video. ☺☺

That is good!! Just wondering, can you use ground ginger in place of fresh ginger?

So I made a ginger bug with a slightly different recipe, but followed your instructions today. The "other" recipe said that if know it was ready because it would get all bubbly, like it's carbonated ... Yet that hasn't happened. How important is that visual cue of my bug's readiness? Thanks, and great video!

I live in a very humid climate and things tend to go bad quickly. I have a lot of fresh organic ginger I want to use to get this started but I'm wondering if I can freeze the rest and thaw and grate before I add in the future. Will that be ok to do?

I tried making the gingerbug and the second and third day the ginger bug bubbled some but it just stopped bubbling. I used filtered water organic ginger and organic cane sugar. Any idea what could have happened? What does the gingerbug taste like when ready? Mine just tastes sweet.
