Calling Garfield's assassin mentally ill is an understatement...

Fun fact: Garfield's wounds weren't initially fatal, however because the doctors treating him didn't wash their hands, the wounds got infected and lead to his death

It's actually roman emperor: out of the approx. 80 emperors 33 were assasinated or executed, meaning that the job has a approx. 40% death rate.

I'm worried that the deaths are extremely close together, so i hope that if stuff like this happens again- It's far apart from the next.

Don't forget that guy that got sick during his speech. He wasn't assassinated, but died in office so it should count

Insane how 3 of these happened 10 presidents for eachother so 1/3 presidents died during that time

Nono, it gets worse with Garfield
His killer only shot the president, the doctors killed him. Garfield wasn't shot fatally and could've easily been saved, but the people who rushed to help didn't wash their hands when they started poking around in the bullet wound, so Garfield died to disease later on

There's also William Henry Harrison and FDR who died of illnesses while in office

It was actually 8 that died - in addition to those four you mentioned, William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, Warren Harding, and FDR died of not being killed.

And... In a way, you could also count Woodrow Wilson, who was mostly dead by the end.

That's not including all the assassination attempts that failed. And more presidents got shot (pretty deadly if you ask me) and survived.
Also Cool historical detail, the archduke Ferdinand of Austria got shot and that started WW1, the interesting part is that he would have survived if they had better access to his wounds, but because the Duke wore suits that were sowed the people couldn't help him.
