Well this is because diamonds have a really high refractive index which bends light. That's why u were not able to see that dot under real diamond.
PS- Also cause of total internal reflection.

I’m assuming they mean glass diamonds when they say “fake”... lab grown diamonds are perfectly identical to mined diamonds

This only applies to diamonds that are fake and have a low index of refraction. A cubic zirconia would still pass the test.

The dot test only works with brillant cut diamonds, not with the other cuts

It is because of refraction and we know that the refractive is the highest in diamond 2.42 and have critical angle of 24 degree only😊

This assumes that the diamond is cut right because I’m pretty sure if it’s cut cubicly it’ll show no matter what

So while at the jewelers, have them remove the stone so you can test it on paper with a red dot. Be sure to bring your red marker.

Instead of that u can just say that it refracts the most so the dot won't appear

This could change depending on the type of cut the diamond has tho especially if it's not common (ie a fancy cut)

Even for real diamonds, different cutting processes will make light refraction different. The diamond itself has no value, and commercial hype has increased its value. High-quality man-made diamonds can’t be distinguished even if they cost hundreds of millions of dollars, let alone this kind of drill pen. And another kind of stone: Moissanite, its fiery light is better than diamond, it is the best thing to replace diamond. So use this drill pen to distinguish natural diamonds from synthetic diamonds or moissanite? Forget it, at most distinguish the plexiglass.
