Baba Yetu
Christopher Tin (b. 1976)
Soundtrack - Classical World Fusion

Composed as the theme song for the video game Civilization IV and featured on Tin's album Calling All Dawns, Baba Yetu was the first piece of music composed for a video game to win a Grammy Award. Originally composed for full orchestra, choir and soloists, it was rearranged for SATB a capella choir by Tin in 2011. The text is a translation of the Lord's Prayer in Swahili.

Baba yetu, Yetu uliye
Mbinguni yetu, Yetu amina!
Baba yetu, Yteu uliye
Jina lako litukuzwe
Utupe leo chakula chetu
Tunachohitaji utusamehe
Makosa yetu, hey!
Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe
Waliotukosea usitutie
Katika majaribu, lakini
Utuokoe, na yule, muovu e milele!
Ufalme wako ufike utakalo
Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni. Amina.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not
into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

One of the best versions of this piece on Youtube! And... I don't think I've ever heard it done completely a cappella (well, plus percussion guy). Usually it is with a symphony, or at least with a piano reduction. But here the choir actually sang all the instrumental parts as well. Really really well done, guys!

The best version of the song I have ever heard. Great job to the soloist. The best part is the bass line as I am a bass myself. The best part is when u song the doo's and when the chords change. Absolutely wonderful. Gives me goosebumps its so good.

Me gusta mucho esta versión de Baba Yetu, porque la cantan como una plegaria, sin gritar. Tal vez el solista debería tener un micrófono, para que se le escuche mejor.

A beautiful performance, but it's shame the soloist gets a bit drowned out by the rest of the choir.

Bringing a soloist for this song is one of the hardest things ever, not only must you sing in different language but you have to be so heartfelt and emotional, it’s simple amazing how amazing every soloist I see who sings this song does amazing!!

The percussion sounded hollow. It might need its own track, to be mixed in later. The fellow with the lead vocal needs some amplification. The performance in general looks about half-practiced: not bad, but it needs to be polished up more.

By FAR my favorite live performance of this. This is so much better than all of the other "big" productions that fail to capture the spirit of this song.
