One-Woman Choir cover of "Baba Yetu" by Christopher Tin from the videogame Civilization IV, arranged and performed by Psamathes.

So proud to share my biggest one-woman choir arrangement yet! This is a celebration of Baba Yetu's 15th anniversary, but my love for Christopher Tin's music has a special story about his beautiful album "Calling All Dawns" in general, back from when I was living in Sweden. At the time, I was welcomed in a small choir near where I lived, with people from different generations and cultural backgrounds, and even though I did not speak Swedish, they made everything they could to include me in the rehearsals.

One of my best memories with the choir is from when we performed a peace-themed concert with songs in many different languages, and we ended up adding one song from Christopher's album, too! The feeling of unity and acceptance we had from learning lyrics in many different languages was truly special, and it's something I always associate with Calling All Dawns.

In this arrangement I sang all SATB parts from the official music sheet, which I still own from back then!, with slight adaptations to accomodate my range. Overall it goes down from B2 up to D6, and I had a lot of fun using all of my range to include the beautiful melodies from the orchestral side of things that reference other tracks from the album, as well as adding my own spin to the solos in general. Singing all the parts to create a big choir and using my knowledge of different singing techniques is hopefully a fitting tribute to this amazing piece of music 💜
