Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be a patent lawsuit regarding Palworld from Nintendo. Game features and mechanics have at times been the discussion of patents and ultimately stifle actual innovation in the medium and this time it's interesting to see what Nintendo has apparently considered to be uniquely theirs after letting Palworld thrive for nine months. Thanks for watching!

Nintendo: "You infringed on our patents!"
Pocket Pear: "What patents?"
Nintendo: "Please respect our privacy."

Just a reminder that it's morally okay to pirate Nintendo games.

It should be illegal to patent a game mechanic or system. The fact that they allow it at all is a travesty and it's 100% stifling to creativity.

Is it a good look for Nintendo? No. Do Nintendo care? No. They have a history of crapping all over the fans constantly and their fans begging for more.

Nintendo is acting like YouTube with their strikes. "You violated our guidelines!" "Which ones?" "You violated our guidelines! Two more strikes and your channel is gone, good day."

Those patents are so vague and should have never been granted. These concepts been in games since the 80s

Fun Fact: NOTHING about Pokemon is wholly original. There were thousands of monster capturing games in Japan before and after Pokemon was released.

The gaming industry should strive for growth and innovation, not suppress creativity with lawsuits. This event may hinder the future development and growth of indie developers who take inspiration from successful games to introduce fresh, exciting gameplay.

"Here's my offer, you lost the lawsuit, you'll have to pay fined and shutdown the studio. But if i lose, i shall certainly find more evidence, prolonging the lawsuit and you will go bankrupt and shutdown the studio nonetheless"

It's a really awful move to sue a company over a patent, but not even inform them WHAT patent is the issue. It's really gross and just classic Nintendo.

This is ironic. Reminder that Nintendo was almost shuttered by a lawsuit between Universal and themselves over Donkey Kong and King Kong? Clearly they don't. Also Pokémon's mechanics were inspired by other monster collectors like Dragon Quest Monsters and the original Shin Megami Tensei

People really need to start boycotting Nintendo at some point about its awful legal policies. They won't stop this behavior, unless it reflects on their finances.

"Pocketpair has infringed on our patents. They're Canadian patents. You've probably never heard of them."

If palworld wins they should add a new tower boss called Bario who has a big ass mustache and wears a cap with a B on it.

Man Nintendo really waited all this time for Palworld to collect all this money before going after them.

Nintendo in a nutshell;
Joycon drifting? haha, we dont give a fuck?
SSBM fan tourments during covid? eat a cease and desist.
Scans of a 90's nintendo guidebook? um actually - take down.
fan content? more like 'cease and desist'
source film maker nintendo assets? better strike down all the projects and threaten steam.

the outcome of this lawsuit could be actually debilitating to future games because it'll set a very dangerous precedent.
"ok so we... can't do diablo style dungeon looters cause blizzard owns that patent... we can't capture monsters... we can't.... uh... apparently 'RUNNING' is off the board.... crafting's out.... weapon customization is out... ok! lets make our game about....NOTHING AT ALL.... SHIT THATS PATENTED TOO!

any shred of respect i had for nintendo died a time ago

Classic nintendo. Patent a game mechanic or system and get away with it.
"You disrespected our patents!"
"What patents?"
"You disrespected our privacy!"

Corporate greed at it's finest.

I swear, If large gaming corporations start really hammering down and getting aggressive with video game patents it might actually be the death of innovation in the industry.

“Hey somebody is making a competitor that’s getting people talking, should we make a really good version of Pokémon now?”

“No sue them.”

I did some patent searching out of curiosity, and it turns out that at least 70% of all patents in the gaming industry originate from Japan. I also discovered patents for a third-person camera controller granted in 2014, which highlights the frustrations of Japanese copyright law. How can they file patents for game concepts from the 90's that should have expired by now?

The financial burden Nintendo's lawsuit imposes is staggering—approximately ¥100 million to ¥1 billion (assuming Nintendo has stacked 10 patents). This practice should be outright illegal; filing a patent costs nothing in comparison to disputing a lawsuit. For a single patent infringement case, each patent must be addressed individually with a counter lawsuit, meaning you can’t win a case in isolation, as the single case from Nintendo doesn’t even take into account the validity of the patents!
