This is Japanese Patent Court which is well… A bit of a kangaroo court. Nintendo will probably win but that just means that game can’t be sold in Japan. Rest of the world will just tell the Japan Courts to get bent.

If Nintendo loses it sets the precedent that mechanics can’t be copyrighted and could give devs a ground against Warner bros for copyrighting the nemesis system

Fun fact:originally Nintendo was the first company to add the jumping mechanic to a game. The almost claimed the rights to jumping. But Miyamoto felt it was too cruel. So they did not patent the jumping mechanic.
