A Charlotte man who went to vote on the second day of early voting in Mecklenburg County says he was stunned to learn his vote was already processed when he arrived to cast a ballot.

Conor Brennan sat down with WCNC Charlotte to describe what happened at Bank of America Stadium on Friday. When he presented his information, the system showed someone else beat him to the punch, voting under his name ... or so he thought.

"They mentioned that I had already voted earlier that day at another location," Brennan said.

Brennan said when he presented his identification, a poll worker gave him the shocking news.

"Strange though, very strange," Michael Dickerson, Mecklenburg County's elections director, said.

"Not feeling like my vote is going to be recorded or heard is an invasion of my rights and disappointing," Brennan said.

Dickerson gave some clarity on the situation, saying it was human error when another person with the same name voted in Mecklenburg County. State records show there are three people named Conor Brennan who are registered to vote in North Carolina, with two of them in Mecklenburg County. #Politics #News #Elections

This is a great reason for mandatory voter ID.

I’m in Georgia and we have to show ID to vote. Not sure why that isn’t the case everywhere.

I live in GA, and in the 2020 election, I personally knew of 11 people who went to vote in person on election day and had to fill out provisional ballots because they were told they had already voted. My guess was they were mail in ballots that were fraudulently sent in. My wife and I each received 3 mail-in ballots that year, and we didn't request any.

They should cross-check the address. When I voted early, the lady asked for my address while looking at the voter roll.

“Happens a lot” thanks for the reassurance 😅

How is it a "mistake" when they have 2 DIFFERENT addresses? Sounds like the machine has a problem identifying two different ppl.

As a programmer you mean to tell me nobody thought about this ahead of time. Scary. Even if two people have the same name and birth date, they have different social security numbers.

I live in North Carolina so I’m not surprised this happened. When my husband and myself changed our political affiliation from Democrat to Unaffiliated in 2016, they removed our names from the registration roll, unbeknownst to us. We were not able to vote in the 2016 election and we had our driver licenses at the voting place!!! It didn’t matter. We had to re-register to vote. That should not have happened simply because we switched parties!

Same name, DOB, and county? Possible? Yes. Likely? No. Sounds like carelessness on the side of the poll worker.

A federal judge just allowed 250K questionable registrations in NC to go ahead and vote without providing proper ID and did not call for contacting the voters to get the proper information and make them vote provisional ballots.
250K votes can throw an election.
Guess which party fought hard to stop the government from making them vote provisional ballots.

Two people with same name and same birthdate “not uncommon - happens a lot”. Really? I find the identical birthdate a bit hard to believe.

Exactly why we need ID. Same name, same bday, can’t have the same address though.

And now there's those 225000 they let register in NC with NO DL number or SS number.
