When my grandparents passed away, I got to see their bibles. They had highlighted, underlined and added some notebook paper of their thoughts ideas. I loved that they did this, because it made me want to read the bible.
I had no idea how religious they were. All I ever saw was happiness for their family and for one another. So I am following in their steps and doing the same, because it is helping me get closer to God and just in case someone finds my bible and is inspired by it.

"THE BIBLE WASN'T WRITTEN AS A SCIENTIFIC TEXTBOOK"

really touched me

One solution to the underlining thing, if you don't want to write on your Bible, is to copy what you want into a separate notebook.

Totally agree about the highlighting thing and that's a personal decision. Personally I highlight and mark up my bible. But if you don't want to mark up your personal bible I recommend printing off the passage from bible gateway and mark them up on the printed piece of paper

Really glad you are bringing up this topic! For people who want to know more, the Bible Project has a podcast called My Strange Bible and they did a series on science and the Bible. I also have some book recommendations on evolution and scripture if your curious.

Jon! Thanks a lot for this Q&A episode! Please do a whole series of scientific errors in the bible! It'll be incredibly helpful for both non believers and believers who have been confused with it, including me!!! Keep being awesome🙌🏼

To be clear, the Greek (Septuagint) which was translated from the older Hebrew we no longer have today is much more accurate than the Hebrew Masortetic, and the Septuagint says "And all the things that creep from winged creatures, which proceed upon four feet, they are an abomination to you." in Leviticus 11:20. It does not say insects.

Wow you have opened my eyes to a different way of understanding science in the bible. Normally i would say that in the days that the bible was written people didn't know most of this scientific stuff so if the bible was "scientifically accurate" they would probably not accept it and then we will not have the bible today. Now i can also say that some of it was written in a poetically way. Thanks so much for answering that question. god bless you.

First one, fair enough was a poem. The second was a statement. Cant agree with your point that the mistake didnt matter just because only "everyday people" would read it. If those people do not know the difference; why isnt god educating them instead of helping them believe false information?

Jon, I love all of your videos and multiple of your videos have spoken to me when I've been in difficult situations, but when it comes to the Bible not being a scientific textbook.... yes, that is true. However, the Bible does not have any mistakes or inaccuracies in it. You are right that one must look at context when reading the Bible, and that applies here too. However, all of the verses that you brought up have been addressed by multiple apologists and have been shown not to be inaccuracies or mistakes when looked at on a deeper level. It is incredibly dangerous to start thinking that there are mistakes in the Bible of any kind because if there were even ONE mistake, that would call the whole document into question. The presence of even a few mistakes would allow skeptics to call even the big concepts covered by the Bible into question based upon the logic of "well, if it can be mistaken here and here, then it can possibly be mistaken there too". And that is precisely why God designed His Word to be without mistakes. One place where you can find answers to the apparent contradictions you mentioned is answersingenesis.org . Again, love your videos! Keep up the good work!

Thank you Jon for the explanation about the scientific errors in the Bible. I haven't really realised this problem, but it was useful for me. Now I see God has created this amazing book to lead us, and teach us for His glory a little more better than so far.

I don't think this part about the moon is really scientific inaccuracy. Why? You gave the explanation yourself while talking about a different passage :) The language of the Bible is adjusted in such a way so that it can be understood by all kinds of people, a Ph.D. student but also the shepherds of those times. SO. Wasn't the moon called the "lesser light" just because it was such from the perspective of people? ;) It's like explaining the world to a child, we can't use scientific terminology if we want the child to understand.

I feel like God would be happy that we are cherishing his word enough to highlight it. Just me though.

Jon, quick question about genesis and science. You say it's a poem but are Adam and Eve literal or figurative? Obviously the answer to that question can challenge the science narrative of existence. For example, in Luke's gospel there is a genealogy from Adam to Jesus. This cannot be poetic as it is giving a literal account. How can you reconcile a poetic interpretation of scripture when Jesus himself and the biblical authors favor the literal interpretation? This is not meant to be an attack or judgement as i also believe the bible is poetic. But can we as Christians ignore the biblical truths of a literal creation account in order to appease modern science?
