John, Good tips...I also find that if you build your kick separate from you base cabinets that you can then Level & secure the kicks first. Then set your base cabs on top of the kicks & everything is level. You will also find that any Out of level problems across the room are much easier to fix when your cab boxes are not in the mix. And building a 31" tall box with a 4" Kick is faster.

Free Tip # 11 - Buy prefinished plywood (I usually opt for finished on one side). Put the pre-finished side to the interior of the cabinet boxes and you don't have to screw with finishing the interiors. Big time and headache saver. Only caveat is the interior will always be a light natural color, which is good by me as I prefer the interiors to be lighter than the exteriors of the boxes.

Oh and always consider only installing drawers in your lower cabinets instead of traditional doors. Full extension drawers are more convenient to dig pots and pans out of than opening the door in a lower cabinet and digging around in the back of that cabinet in the dark.

Solid tips😉 Can you maybe do a episode on ”diy tools”. Like build a tablesaw from a circular saw, a routertable from a handheld router and stuff like that. Would be supercool to see😃👍🏻

Great tips! I like to pre-build my toe kicks then you can level them out then set my cabinets on top of it. Instead of having to shim or scribe each cabinet. But there's a thousand different ways to do it just find one that works well for you.

Hey John,

I think it would be super awesome if you to do a video in depth explaining how to use certain tools that you have around the shop, like the domino joiner, biscuit joiner, the planer, etc.

I am just a diy’r and build for myself. My tip is I found out that I can cut most carcus parts on my cnc router. Cutting the stretchers and side panels with perfect fitting dados, rabbits etc. Since all parts are exact the cabs go together quickly and need very little squaring if any. I don’t need a tape measure much lol

It should be noted that if you are using Bondo, you should only use this if you're painting the cabinets.
