Why does everyone presume that you've upgraded to windows 10? I have a new computer with Windows 10. I haven't upgraded therefore Windows Photo Viewer IS NOT THERE!!! I want it to be but it isn't. I think anyone would know to go into control panel, default programmes etc etc. I have tried it all but IT....IS....NOT....THERE.

I tried to download the reg file but it sends me to a registration page. I registered with your forum and logged in. I tried to again download the file but received a message saying that:
You do not have permission to access this page. This could be because of one of the following reasons:
Your account has either been suspended or you have been banned from accessing this resource.
You do not have permission to access this page. Are you trying to access administrative pages or a resource that you shouldn't be? Check in the forum rules that you are allowed to perform this action.

If you install Destroy Windows 10 Spying, it automatically sets the default photo viewer back to Windows Photo Viewer, not to mention it gets rid of a lot of the "anonymous" data collection.


I'm sorry to hear about your dog. That's terrible. More people get bit by ankle biters every year than they do pits. A lot of folks in America have the vets put their pits down as terrier mixes on the registration so no one can take them away. Not sure if that works outside the states, but I hope you find a new one.

Great Tip! I have a number of clients complaining about the new PHOTOS app. This could be their saving grace.
PS My heart goes out to you over losing Buster, especially in such an absurd way. I truly could not imagine.

I already enabled it. Next I installed the CODEC to view WEBP images. With that you can open WEBP images in a lot of things like Photo Viewer. The only thing is that Photo Viewer renders them too dark. I never have that problem with anything other than Photo Viewer. Oddly the thumbnails look OK even though I set the default "open with" app to Photo Viewer. At first I thought it was a bug in a converter I was using but that is not the case since it seems to be a problem with some software to render them. They open fine in Chrome but I want to be able to browse through them like in Photo Viewer rather than open them as a page. One other annoyance with WEBP is that some images get rotated for some strange reason. A photo taken as a portrait might get rotated to landscape for some reason. That wouldn't be such a big deal to me but Photo Viewer doesn't rotate them the way it does other images. I don't really care for the default viewer in Windows 10 either (I am stuck in my ways from Windows XP). I also wonder if I was under a rock when software started to be called "apps". This sounds like something the great George Carlin would have commented on if he was still alive. He told it as it is and was not afraid to at all!! We need more comedians like George Carlin. I will miss hearing his words of wisdom!!
