My family has had 2 Irish Terriers. The last passed away last summer so are looking for #3. The video was pretty accurate as to characteristics. Both of our dogs were companion dogs although both were pure bread from top breeders. The last one was Dirge Madra kennels and her father Eli Eli Oh won the Westminster dog show in the terrier class. Our Molly was the most intelligent dog we ever owned....and was a fabulous family dog. She was great when our children were young...never snapped at us and was so good you could literally take food out of her mouth. She was a fantastic watch dog also....we trained her to bark and go crazy when someone knocked at our door or rang the bell. That would continue until we told her it was OK and she stopped immediately and welcomed people into the house. Irish Terriers are also ultra protective of their owners...even to the point if my wife or I started giving the kids a hard time because they were misbehaving, she would growl and let us know that she didn't like her kids being given a hard time ;-)
We didn't have the dogs at the same time....it is best to have one dog in the family although both dogs got along well with other dogs and loved to play with them.
They do require frequent exercise and will exercise on their own with what we called "rocket dog". They would be peacefully sitting and all of a sudden they decide to go for some exercise...running in circles around the house, spinning madly, and jumping up and down. After a few moments of this they would calm down and lay down again. Other owners told me there dogs do the same thing.
They are also very good at training their owners so make sure you let them know who is the boss. I did find them to be extremely easy to potty train and general obedience training also.
Cons: They do require hand stripping DO NOT use clippers or you will ruin their coat. Find a groomer that knows terriers....or learn how to do it yourself.
We also found them to be extremely loving and compassionate to those who weren't feeling well.

I had a bitch who sadly passed away at 2 years of age. Friendly with children, adults and other dogs and always great fun. Easy to train and rewarding to work with. A clean breed with very little shedding unlike a Jack Russell. Highly recommended as a family dog or older but active people. An excellent watchdog and has a protective streak. Stripping the coat is better as trimming spoils it, in my opinion. But this true of other terrier breeds too. Males can be dog aggressive, but I have met a number of male Irish Terriers that don’t react aggressively even when faced with another feisty male dog. Training and exercise a must, as the video indicates a tired dog is a better behaved one.

My pup should technically only grow to 12 to 14 kg. However at 8 months he's a whopping 18 kg. You would think he's fat but I've asked the vet who says he's healthy
