Another plus is that focusing on the *total* incentivizes guys to actually eat in a surplus rather than trying to stay lean just to have a higher "added weight" to their pullups. That alone is going to be a win for hypertrophy.

Pull Ups are paramount for size. So many powerlifters are gravitating towards prioritizing them now

Nothing made my lats blow up like pull ups and I'll never stop doing em. Awesome video Alex!

Pull up rep counts are the best motivator during a cut. As lbs drop and you see bits of definition creep in, the rep count skyrockets.

Man I wish I could say my absolute pullup load was "FULL". All hail the bloat lord.

Started doing pull ups during quarantine and never looked back. You can make CRAZY progress with Weighted Pull Ups (I'm doing with only +15kg now, but we'll get there)

I'm 6'3 and about 208lbs. I've been working on my weighted pull-up for the past few months and my plan calls for 90lb singles this week. The growth I've seen even getting near this total has been significant..ps I'm all natural and turning 41 next month

Look at Andrey Smaev, he's doing pullups with a total weight of 280kg. His bw is 120, and his max is 160kg.

One of the most impressive takes on pull up training I have ever seen

Weighted pull-ups are one of my favorite exercises. Right now I’m around 190lbs doing weighted pull-ups with 55lbs for sets of 3, so around 245lbs. I’m getting there! My lats are already fairly sizeable so I look forward to what they’ll look like down the line

Did pull ups for the first few months of training and my lats blew up like crazy, weighted calisthenics is the way forward

Your back has always been so impressive to me, can't wait to push for more when it comes to my own back

I'm 105kg @ 185cm tall. I do pullups strict with pause on the bottom for full hang at 25kg added weight 7 reps 5 sets. Can confirm I get compliments on my lats.

The absolute concept makes alot of sense, looking back I was much lighter but had alright numbers added, lats werent as big as I’d hoped, but it was because the absolute load wasnt up there.

The magic thing about the weighted pullup is that it also improves your rowing strength even if you don't row at all. Of course it's not as optimal from a bodybuilding standpoint as I've tested just doing pullups and my back wasn't as impressive as when pairing both vertical and horizontal pulling, but in terms of strength I improved just from the pullups alone. The scariest part is that it also maintained pretty much all my deadlift strength too. I would still recommend rowing since you get that weighed stretch in the upper back that pullups don't offer as much. Even sternum pullup, at the top is comparable, but not at the bottom.

I'm going to say it... pullups is probably the best overrall excercise for the back. (Excluding pulls from floor/blocks since they have different mechanics and benefits)

The heaviest Chin up I’ve done is 40kg. At 70Kg bodyweight. Seen excellent gains from it in a short period of time.

I mostly stick to the 3-6 rep range.
Also I prefer to do Chin ups (rather than pull ups) as I don’t do much (if any) direct biceps work.

Man, a video I've been waiting for years! I was telling my friends long ago that you have to count a total workload with your bodyweight on a weighted pullup and now I have a strong argument on that. Thank you Alex!!!

Yoooo, Burley Hawk is an absolute machine. The vertical pulling strength on that guy is ridiculous

I just hit my 2023 goal of a +150 lb weighted chin up yesterday (will be sharing a video soon). My bodyweight is 190 lbs. I don't consider myself the most aesthetic guy as my bodyfat % hovers around 16% (per a recent DEXA scan), but what Alex is preaching is absolutely the truth. Weighted calisthenics in general are an INCREDIBLE way to build strength and aesthetics simulatenously. I'm not sure if I'll ever achieve a one arm chin up at my bodyweight, but hitting new PRs for weighted calisthenics is very encouraging. Appreciate your content, Alex!
