Hail! You may want to watch the first part to this Wendigo journey where I cover its origins, very interesting stuff!

I do love the idea of The Wendigo as a cryptid monster, I am afraid I must point out that in the real world 'wendigo' is a term for a VERY bad person and a Spirit of a certain kind of madness.
I am acutely aware of this fact because of the IMMENSE dishonor it brings. You see, I am a Shaman, a Heyoka in fact (yes Heyoka is Lakota while I am Shawnee. Shamanism crosses tribal borders) and my family was declared Wendigo People because my ancestors refused to cooperate with the trail of tears and got many of our tribemates murdered in the process. To this day my family is working to make it right.

I want to make it clear, I am not objecting in any way to your video (I love your channel!!), I just wanted to make this statement for anyone who wants to know more about my people's culture.

1:10 - The Wendigo Spirit HATES the red-headed giants. I have heard this story many times, and I believe it.
2:30 - That was a metaphor. It means he turned them into slaves.
3:25 - Somehow I missed that one. I'll go back and watch it. But yeah Wendigo Psychosis is BAD news; it's like trying to fight a man on PCP and AngelDust. They feel no pain and are in a state of hysteria which forces their adrenals into fight or flight mode, which gives the illusion of super-human strength.
6:28 - There is actually some credence to this. I have been called upon to deal with these cases before they get that bad. I have found that the overly vast majority of these poor people have contracted a strain of Lyme disease that we now call Babesiosis. It sounds insane that old Shaman methods can cure a disease that has only recently been discovered, nevertheless, it is true. I have successfully cured this Lyme strain under medical observation.
9:52 - To be honest Jack was more showman than Shaman. He hung himself because he spoke with other Shamans and they pointed out that he was becoming Wendigo by accepting violence in place of Medicine. We tell each other Jack's story as a STARK warning about when to separate spiritual practice from natural law. He murdered those women because he got addicted to the kill. I have never once had to take any measures so extreme that required violence; what we cannot handle, modern medicine can soothe.
17:02 - That's why I insist on doing my show live rather than recorded.

I very much appreciate the "disclaimer" section, and I find it refreshing to hear an honest voice calling out the clickbait fantasy-peddling that far too often dominates these kinds of topics. I wish some of the channels that do this would just embrace their content for what it is instead of pretending to be authentic real-world evidence of this or that, but maybe that's part of the selling point; an implicit agreement that viewers will suspend disbelief for the sake of a somewhat more immersive - yet incredible - story.

For me, I find the folklore and legends to be fascinating all on their own, and exploring the real-world origins and inspirations behind them is something I find really enjoyable. I really appreciate your approach to the subjects, thank you!

I have recently discovered your video's, and for someone who's watched countless videos on Skinwalkers, Wendigos, bigfoot, dogman, etc... I have to say that yours are by far some of the most heavily researched and intriguing I've ever come by!!!! 💯💯💯💯💯!! Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and not only have I binge watched TONS of your other videos in the past several days - but I'm anxiously looking forward to watching more and more as the days go by! The information you give us is VERY much appreciated - as the majority of it is a first for me! It's fresh, new, and exciting!!! Your work is AMAZING! Keep up the kick ass great

I love that the wendigo was covered, I went and saw the antler's movie. And while I loved the monster design I was also pretty disappointed with the story and how much actual time the monster was in the movie. I wished they covered much more native american lore or at the very least tell a better story.

My best friend as well as my self have encountered a wendigo on two separate incidents. Both in the dead of winter with fresh snow on the ground, at night and enough moon light to see without flashlights. They’re out there and not just in Appalachia. They’re on the east coast

i just saw a wendigo today actually a few hours ago, how it all started though is my cousin and my aunt saw something “shapeshifting” into different animals and then disappeared and it left a patch of flowers on a tree shaped like a deer, a few days ago my cousin took mushrooms (a pretty big dose about 9 grams) and i think he was communicating with what i think was skin walkers, me and my other cousin were trip sitting him he went outside and stood in the middle of the yard saying crazy shit, we thought he was just tripping balls until we heard a pack of coyotes screaming out like they were fighting for their lives, then we heard branches and leaves moving all around us and we heard a growl that just sounded out of this world something out of a movie, i saw a HUGE giant spider looking thing about 100 feet away but it was dark so i wasn’t sure what it was, but my cousin was acting like he was talking to it, and i think personally he opened his mind up a little too much, the growl sounded very close and we got him to come in the house some how, but today my friends came and got me from my cousins where the “skin walkers” and we walked into these woods a few towns away, i instantly felt darkness and the temperature dropped for sure, we were walking in the woods and for some reason i had an extremely strong urge to walk around my friends like i was protecting them, i walked in front of them while walking into the forest and behind them when leaving, we started walking deeper into the woods and it started to feel darker and darker, we kept hearing a weird whistle get stronger and stronger the farther the went, we got to a point where i just looked because i felt immense evil so i said to turn around, and on the way back we kept getting lost even though we didn’t go far at all, which is weird because i always walk trails and the first time i walk a new set of trails, i know them like the back of my hand, at this point i am walking behind them to protect them and i stayed back a bit just staring back to take a real good check, i started to walk again and saw my friends just standing there and heard them say “oh my fucking god” “what the fuck is that” and i walked up and looked at what they were looking at, about 20 feet away, a fucking 15 foot wendigo was staring at us and moved toward us, i instantly for some reason took a step forward and it stopped and stared, i said “you know who i am let’s go” no idea why i said that, but i told my friends to link arms and walk forward while i circled around them and we kind of had to walk around it and we just saw him turn his head following us as we walked, and on the way out i could see it peaking it’s head out from behind trees staring at us and it kept switching sides of the trail, craziest shit i have ever seen in my fucking life and we were all sober and we do nothing but but smoked occasionally they’re 17 and i’m 18. i also think it’s very strange i have an encounter with skin walkers and a wendigo with in days of eachother, so if anyone knows what truthfully caused this to happen to me within a few days and miles apart please let me know.

Just found you and so glad I did.Your content is amazing. My 18yr old son who is a Baptist preacher, very level headed and in college right now. He truly believes in the windigo and it scares him to the bone. He will not go outside too far alone or near the wood line at all. I'm a huge skeptic until I see something for myself but I do believe, he believes. We believe to go solely by the Bible and if Giants can be real, you really can't count out other possibilities. Again, good to be part of this channel now. HaaaaZaaaa

The Skinwalker, is something else entirely. Which, also, terrifies me. Some people don't realize Skinwalker and Windigo, are two separate beings. Completely different, qnd completely terrifying.

I was always taught by my elders the "dogman" hunted wendigos. The first story you told of the giant and the "wolf" is one of the legends that correlates to this. I am an Ojibwa. Though the stories I was told growing up called them cannibals or evil sprits. I know this is not much as far as evidence is concerned, but as a child I always saw canine beings in the woods near where I lived. Later in life I came across other elders telling tales of their clans, and learnt of the word wendigo. Personally I always see the word just referring to cannibals and those that use cannibalism for spiritual reasons. I would like to point one thing out, a lot of the non physical wendigo stories I was told where more cautionary tales of turning a blind eye to abuse and those needing help. One even goes so far as to explain if an elderly woman had reached a younger lady in time and hugged her, that was specified in the tale, the wendigo would of never formed. While I understand that there will always be those that use legends to justify acts of evil, I don't think it was an acceptable behavior to most tribal members. I also don't think wendigo was tossed around as loosely as werewolf or witch was in their parent cultures.
On a more fictional note, less cultural, I always found the legends to describe something more akin to Romero's Ghouls then most fantasy descriptions. And never a yeti/deer being...lol I get annoyed and find it funny when tales speak of those forms. Thank you for not falling to that trope.

i find cryptids very interesting, very elusive. the point you mentioned about hearing all these different noises from animals we encounter on an almost everyday basis and yet we take them as a possible predator is roaming the area.
i had just gotten home from work not too late at night and as i was unlocking the side door, i hear this sound, like an animal is grieving for a loss, almost like crying/whimpering kind of howling. We do have coyotes in the area and i have heard them howling on some nights, i never heard a sound like that. As i walked to the center of my driveway to really hone in on the sound, it stopped. i could just hear it, it was very faint and we do live not far from the HWY, but it wasn't the vehicles moving on the HWY. just goes to show how everyday noises can really have an impact on how we perceive them and just made by everyday animals we encounter.

The first time I heard an Elk I thought some ancient throwback had gotten loose and was running through the forest screaming like an insane animal, creeped me plumb out, then got me laughed at.

18:40 that imagine was actually taken close to where I live and my local news Channel picked it up and did a story on it. Basically a fan of the game resistance made that inspired by the game and posted it on the internet where it eventually would end up being what people would call the "rake" or the "wendigo" but rather its just a fan project of a game.
