I’ve rocked yarn twits for almost two years with a 4 month break in between to let my edges breath. TBH I wouldn’t suggest washing them or getting them too wet without sitting under a dryer. That weight might be too much for folks with finer strands and allow mold to grow for some if they take too long to dry. I use a dry wash mid month and uninstall/ wash it monthly. For the moisture issue, a bottle of (insert your favorite hydrating oil) and water sprayed on your roots once or twice a week will keep your scalp and new growth moisturized. When installing the yarn, I start on clean damp hair and use a heavy whipped cream moisturizer plus I two strand twist my hair and install the yarn on the twists. This really helps to lock the moisture into the hair so it stays hydrated the entire month between your real wash day. If my ends are feeling extra dry I use a heavy butter or grease on them to seal in the liquid in even more, I also clip my ends with every install. My wash days (3 days total) are usually intense complete hair and scalp treatments to replenish my strands. My hair has honestly never been healthier. It’s a great protective style if you like changing hair color every month like I do.

I loved it when I had my yarn twists. My nephews thought that I grew my locs back. I wore them to my nephews wedding in The Dominican Republic. When I went swimming they were heavy though. I never moisturized them the whole 2 months that I had them, and my hair was still oiled. I love the hairstyle, but it took me 18 hrs to do them. Not sure if I have that energy anymore. Thank you for the video

Hi, your twists looked great, even after a month. One way to finish the twist instead of rubber bands is to wrap a single strand of yarn around the end. Wrap about 4 times, make a knot and then pull tight around the twist. It should look like your rubber bands. Then you just trim the straggly ends. If you want to be certain they don’t unravel, you can use a few drops of nail glue to secure the knot. I don't like the smell of nail glue, so I use fabric glue, which is white like Elmer's. There are other brands too. The fabric glue has very little smell compared to the nail glue. Hope this helps. Now if I could only figure out how to twist properly.... : )

Hey Sola, I resorted to yarn braids and twist as a protective style and I couldn’t have made a better choice. My choice of yarn is red heart and Brazilian braiding hair. My pros: cost, looks very natural, easy clean up and take down with less shedding and it’s not messy, keeps hair moisturized

You gotta be quick when sealing the ends with a lighter😉 Thanks for making this video

It was good about the Pro and Cons with the yarn in your hair. It's nice that it last for a month. Good seeing you do your daughter and yours too.

This was so helpful, thank you! I’ve been thinking of experimenting with yarn for a while now, but all of the stuff I read online have either extremely positive or negative viewpoints of folks experiences with yarn braids or twists. Maybe it’s very personal/polarizing depending on your personal texture and porosity? Who knows. Anyways - This felt very honest and balanced. Thanks for demystifying everything!

I Clip the burn the ends of the yarn then After boiling WATER for a few minutes of the water cooling I then dip my yarn this helps lay it down and help it look natural.

I concur with the pros ma
The second con is hilariously true
I like to thread my ends with a strand of yarn. And then cut it smooth

Been following you and your beautiful family for a while now ....you did not have to take down your yarn twists just for the video's sake, just my humble suggestion, you could have shown us different styles you can do with the yarn twists still in your hair, and that would be sufficient to carry you for another two weeks!... All that work mami...we appreciate you!!🤗🙏🙏BLESSINGS.

When I would do yarn braids, I would brush out the ends and braid them down more so they look more natural

Try to use a dry shampoo instead of water to wash and maybe dry with a cool hair dryer or warm dryer to remove some of the water
