Today's product: Hisense Portable Air Conditioner. Link is below:

I like to woodwork and tinker around in the garage. Unfortunately itis too hot in Florida to do much in the garage during the day. We insulated the garage doors and insulated the attic. Still, the garage was nearly as hot as outdoors. We looked for a solution and found it at Lowes. We bought a Hisense 10,000 btu Air conditioner. In this video you can see if it does the job. Spoiler Alert... It did.

I put mini-split units in my garages. They will cool the garage down to 63° if I would ever be so crazy, or heat it to 80° in the winter.

Best feature is the “dry” feature. Pull the car in during a rain and click on dry and the car will be nice and dry, and so will the floor.

Definitely recommend looking in to a mini split for your home.

A lady I work with bought one of these for her retired brother's RV. It was nice to hear a 2nd positive opinion on these and see the coller and all accessories demonstrated on this video 👍 Always something new on your channel ☺️

I like the mini split idea especially if you use the garage a lot. 6 hours seems too long to cool the garage and still not get down to 80. I recently researched AC units and found mini splits were the best option then window units then portable units. Thank you for your videos!

I had a Mini-Split put in my garage. It’s really worth the money. My garage is the same temperature as my house. In two hours time I can get my garage down to 70°. I leave my mini split on all the time and it keeps it nice at about 75 to 76°. If I’m gonna work out, as half of my garage is a gym, I’ll bring it down a couple degrees. It’s the only way to go.

It’s always nice to see a well organized garage. A lot of hobbies and that’s great. So much to teach your grandchildren. They will have such fond memories.

Mr Jerry thanks for the tip! It's getting hot out here in Cali with temps above 110.

My only advice due to young eyes watching you work in the garage shop is to possibly wear some eye protection when using the power saw so youngsters learn the right way.

We live in Georgia. We have this A/C for our garage. Also have the dehumidifier for the house. Good Jerry!

Funny I was just thinking about a way to cool down the garage. Here in the Phoenix area my garage was 106 this morning - and yes it gets worse than that. Very uncomfortable to groom my dogs in the garage as you can imagine. Anyway planning on moving to TV in 2025 so thanks for this information.

Hi Jerry. That type of air conditioner is not very efficient. You can install a mini split ( like in your lanai ) or a regular window air conditioner. Costco and Amazon sells on that will hug your window ledge. It makes it more easier to lock your window for security reasons. Also will not block the sun as much so the garage will not be as dark. I believe you are not allowed to have window air conditioners in the village but I am not sure if this will violate that rule because it is in the garage. Not only will both these air conditioners be cheaper to run, they are more efficient and will cool that garage faster.

I was wondering about the window ac unit, if they were allowed. I wonnder since your garage is insulated and finished what it would do if you included the garage onto your current ac system. Some ductwork over to your work area and a shutoff at the source duct. It might work your system more, but it may be more comfortable.

I used to do the same thing with a smaller unit. What I ended up doing was putting a small fan on a stand next to it and blowing the cold air in the direction I was working. It didn’t cool down the whole area but kept me cool while I was working. Great looking shop Jerry and I hope you get to use it more.

Love this video and how organized your garage is! That said, the downside to insulating so well is that the space will eventually become whatever the ‘smoothed’ daily outdoor temperature is. Too, houses and many building materials (esp. wood) need to breathe and be ventilated …

Often the best first step to fixing a hot space issue is to put in an inexpensive whole house fan in the ceiling that ‘exhausts’ through the roof. With only an AC, you’re expensively battling the heat by adding cold, whereas you should just get rid of the heat first. Whole house fans are powerful and cost only a few hundred dollars, including installation. When in use, they exhaust the worst of the heat and stale air in seconds and draw in and up any cold air from the foundation (slab?). You only have to run it for a few minutes. In homes with below-grade foundations, the chill effect can be profound.

When we installed one in our first Massachusetts cape’s 2nd floor ceiling, it actually drew the ashes out of our main floor fireplace around the corner! We learned fast to open our door to the basement to reduce the suction. We never had to use our AC, even on the hottest days, after that. Caveats: 1. our basement didn’t have radon, which would be an issue for some, especially if they’ve not mitigated it, and 2. Slab structures may not benefit nearly as much as those with full basements.

A window ac unit will cool better, faster & more efficient. The floor units also add heat to the room it is supposed to be cooling.

With such a nicely organized garage and a great sealed floor, who wouldn't want to make it a cooler workspace. It can now be a functioning extra room.

Hello Jerry, I used a portable air conditioner in my 2 car garage in Delaware and it couldn't do the job. I finally had a twenty four thousand split air installed. Works great for cool as well as heat. You may not use the heat much. Keep the videos coming. 👍
