The Room You Should Avoid at a Ryokan #Shorts

If you're thinking of staying at a ryokan on your trip to Japan, please pay attention! There are rooms within a ryokan that I personally cannot recommend to you… It is the rooms near the elevators.

Of course, if you have a hard time walking it might be better, but it could get noisy near the elevator.

This is especially because unlike regular hotels, ryokans may have group guests stay in a large room. For example, in Japan there are school trips, and in such cases, a whole class often stays together in one big room. You might find it difficult to relax in your room listening to the shouting and yelling of teenagers excited about their trip.

When booking a ryokan, it may be worth trying to request a room as far away from the elevator as possible.

Interesting! When I travel with my family my mom always likes having a room far from the elevator but we live in the US.

I have experienced something similar.

I went to a burlesque convention in Seattle, Washington and it just so happened that we were sharing the hotel with about 500 students from Japan.

There was also a Banking convention going on at the same time. So they were surrounded by adults in suits and other adults in short shorts, crop tops, feather boas, neon colored fishnets covered in glitter.

I'm pretty sure that those kids got quiet and experience sharing a hotel with us for a weekend and that they will tell their children about it for generations to come.

Hi, I work in a hotel. Can confirm, it's always difficult placing people near the elevators. Our rooms are pretty "deep" so that buffers out a lot of noise from the hallway, but having said that, too many travelers who are very light sleepers never prepare properly when staying in a new place.

I'm going on a school trip soon, so thank you for this advice. I will remind my peers to stay quiet.

Man I love your videos, one of the few creators nowadays who just does nothing but speak facts on top of facts. I really hope to meet you one day and have a conversation

The noise of the elevator, additional foot traffic, and listening to a bunch of kids probably would make it hard to relax, come to think of it.

This may be true in most hotels. At least in usa and mexico. My family always chooses rooms away from the elevator.

I'll stay near the elevator, then. The sound of children laughing and enjoying life makes me happy, too. I don't care if they keep me from sleeping. :)
