He was a competitive powerlifter too. He definitely did plenty of back squats.

I’m 6’5 and I ATG squat regularly. Just gotta focus on lighter weight and good form to increase flexibility. Then steadily increase the weight.

Has nothing to do with your hight. It's the ratio of spine to femur length that is most important.

It's actually more to do with body proportions than height

squats are hard regardless of how tall you are, that’s the whole point. i’m 6’4 and go ass to grass when i have a barbell on my back. do your stretches and lift heavy weight, don’t let your height be an excuse.

I have just learned two things:

1. Why it's hard for me to back squat.
2. That I'm taller than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Edit* Thanks for 1k likes brotato chips.

My favorite part of your video titled "why Arnold didn't back squat "is the picture of Arnold doing a back squat. I see what you did there. That was awesome.

it's not about length, it's about the anthropometrical proportion between your torso and femur

It definitely possible tho, I’m 6’8. When I first started squatting I couldn’t go past parellel and I had severe knee pain. I got some squat shoes and worked on mobility now I can squat heavier weight atg with no knee pain.

If the femur is longer than the back, then any type of back squat gives problems. It is equally applicable to 6'6" person as it is for 5'6" person.

Reason: it makes a virtual right angled triangle comprising back (hypotenuse), imaginary vertical line from barbell to mid foot (altitude), and femur (base) when it is parallel to the ground.

If hypotenuse is shorter than base, it can't connect it's one end to altitude and other end to the base. It results in compensation in the form of rounded lower back, shallow depth, etc. and squat just doesn't feel natural. It has nothing to do with hip mobility or hamstrings flexibility.

Im 6'5. Squatting has always been my biggest weakness. Its doesn't matter the weight, my body just doesn't like to do the motions of squatting.
