In 2023 it is predicted that we will see more retail closures than we did in 2022. When store closures happen we see more layoffs which means higher unemployment in a higher chance of a recession. There are many big stores closing in the USA, and it is not going to stop anytime soon. Some are calling this a retail apocalypse, but others say this is just normal economy at work. We will see Sears closing, Macy's closing, JCPenney closing, Barnes & Noble closing, and so many more. Business closures are normal when we see economic slowdown. Retail store closures are going to happen and we need to be prepared. The US economy in 2023 will be different than what it was in 2022. Stores will be disappearing and we will watch with our very eyes. Whether it's a store bankruptcy, a restructuring, or something else entirely oh, this is what we are expecting in 2023. Let me know out of the seven large retail stores that will disappear in 2023 which one are you the saddest to here is going away?

I saw this coming for Sears in the late 90s. I was fresh out of college and got a job as a department supervisor at the Paramus NJ which closed three years ago. All of the managers were old and refused to put their ass on the line to change things when home computers and the internet took off. They just wanted things to remain the same as things had since 1970. I was expecting them to close after Christmas. I left in 1998 and never looked back.

Sad to see them go... I know Kohl's will be failing too as well. I went in a Kohl's store the other day and it was like a ghost town! Way more employees than customers. Their stores are too big and not what people want any more.

I had to go into a couple of old fashioned ‘department’ stores about a year ago. Crickets…no other shoppers, no phones ringing just employees who looked like they had already seen the writing on the wall. The internet has eliminated the need for community and, in many cases, personal interaction. Definitely a double edged sword. Sadly, what’s on the horizon is not a ‘recession’.

Hi Adam I'm 60 years old, and because I have memories of shopping at all of them it will be hard for me to see any of them go.

Right now, I 'm sad to hear about Sears, JCPenny, Barnes and Nobles and Staples closing their doors. These stores been around since I was a snotty nose kid. I use to see these stores when I'm riding on the trains and busses in NYC 🗽. Damn...

I knew Kmart would close but you’ve got the owner of Sears and Kmart mixed up. The year that this happened Sears was going through bankruptcy and Kmart thinking that they were so smart, Kmart closed down a huge number of non productive stores. With the money Kmart got from selling these stores they bought out Sears . Stupidest thing they ever did. I know all this because I was working for Kmart. I worked there until I reached retirement age. I worked there for 26 years.
