Volvo is a nice car all along though Tesla has outdone them

hybrid is boring unless they are totally powered by electric with the engine only generating electricity.

I read between the lines with Volvo statement. The next Golf Gti will be 48volt and use it's 'new' starter motor as a electric motor to support the petrol motor. That's what all car manufactures will do. So technically it'll be electric and petrol.
That's all that Volvo are really saying. So, all cars in two years will have both electric and petrol motor.
Volvo? Making a big marketing deal about what will really be standard.

Volvo spokes person should say "We see Tesla's success in their Model S and X and ever declining fossil fuel car sales in the segment. Thank you Tesla for opening up your patents. Volvo will take a baby step to electrify our fleet but we will do it slowly as we still need to sell gasoline engines which we have already invested huge amount of capital".

"Will Other Car Makers Follow Volvo's Switch to Electric?" What do you mean? Volvo has not switched to electric yet (and even when it does, it has only promised "electrification" that includes mild hybrids; not necessarily 100% EVs). A more honest question is "Will Other Car Makers Follow Tesla's Electric Revolution?"

Just drive a Tesla. Once you feel that silent power, everything else feels like a lawnmower. EVs are the future because they are a better experience for the driver and passengers, not to mention everyone on the road behind them.

with all these electric cars coming into market, the biggest problem is how are these cars going to get charged up? you needless 5mins to fill up a tank of gas but to charge up a car you need at least a couple of hours. so the infastructure for the charging pods need to be settled. and all the car makers need to agree on a standard charging plug in for all the cars they produce

Before I bought my Tesla I tried an expensive volvo hybrid SUV. It handled poorly and drove like a overweight high centered piece of junk. Tesla has nothing to fear from Volvo. But Volvo's endorsement of electric helps give more credibility to what Tesla is doing. A good thing for Tesla each time another automaker adds electric.
