Did you notice this in Harry Potter? After the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Lucius Malfoy was sent to Azkaban for some times, but we never got to see this on screen, however during the Battle of Hogwarts, we can clearly see Lucius's Azkaban serial number on his neck.

Fact: In 6th movie when Harry is reading newspaper at Cafe, you can get a glimpse of the article stating disgrace of malfoy family and the capture of lucius malfoy plus the court trial in which draco amd narcissa were present.

Lucius were actually happy when he was sent to Azkaban. After the diary was destroyed and incident at the department of mystery, Voldemort started to despise him. The Dark Lord also gave his only son, Draco, a death sentence by ordering him to murder Professor Dumbledore. It was probably the worst punishment to Lucius and his family.

When Draco beats Harry, he says "It was for my father". It's obvious something bad happened to Lucius.

What I love about Azkaban is that every person's character we come to know is always significantly changed by their experiences at Azkaban. Sirius almost turns into a madman and a killer, Belatrix goes nuts and stays that way, Barty Brouch Jr is a lot more frantic and unstable before being sent to Azkaban, and after he escapes, he is composed and serious, and Lucius Malfoy is the most changed out of all of them: In his previous appearances, he was outwardly evil and malicious, both publicly and as a death eater. But after coming out of Azkaban, he practically does nothing in Voldemort's favor. He just watches Voldemort from the side because he has to, and he only calls over Draco so they can abandon Voldemort. Now that was a better redemption than Draco in the movies

What I always found funny is that lucious and his wife were actually happy he was in askaban at the time because it ment he would actually be kept alive and safe from Voldemort.

I find it interesting that they used a combination of Elder Futhark and Younger Futhark (Old Norse/Viking written languages) as part of his neck tattoo.

Fun fact: the odd looking symbols on the signs and and on the tattoos are Viking runes, and while I am unsure what they are supposed to symbolize, they do not form words. (I am able to read and write Viking runes)
Edit: for example, the ones on Lucius’s sign just say ‘oa’ the ones in Sirius’s sign say ‘pz’
