I agree with the #1 top choice. I own 5 fully restored MGBs and a soon to be restored MGC GT. They are fun great cars and very good investment.

Always gotta throw the chrome bumper dig in, though subtle. MG is a great number one choice. For what it's worth when I came out to find my RB car 3 feet further in the parking lot than I had parked it after being "cracked" from behind with no damage, I appreciated those ugly black things more. Prices going up for outstanding models, get em while ya can

The Ford Anglia 105E was my real first car as the very first a Standard 8 never really made it on the road.
I loved that car.

Great to get independent opinion. Thumbs up.

Rover P4 - a good class choice, generally quite rugged, separate chassis too. Minor and or Herald variants rather than Anglia - too scarce. Midget/Spitfire ?

The MGB has stood the test of time and continues running strong.

How could you leave out the Fiat 124 Spider 1966-1979, as well as the Fiat/Pininfarina Spider 2000, should be included 1979-1984. And the Datsun 180b Buebird

I have a 1970 Volvo 133 Amazon (or at present a thousand components that will, eventually be a 1970 Amazon again) Just found i'll have to MoT it for at least 2 years under the new rules.Problem is finding a garage without pimply kids with no idea about testing an old car.
Not mentioned are some of the features these cars have.Overdrive (in effect a 5 speed box)to keep up with modern traffic.Disc and drum brakes (later ones had a servo), laminated windscreen Four bar link rear suspension( in fact a hotrod set-up!) with a bullet proof diff.Coil springs all round and plus you can still get any spares you need.Built a small block Chevy a few years ago, and the Volvo will have cost about 4 times as much to completely re-build.So get one with a good engine!

Good choices - I would add the Fiat 124 Sport Coupe and Spider to the list - A DOHC screaming 4-banger with a 5-speed and 4 wheel disk breaks made the MG old fashioned in 1968

I found myself nodding and smiling at almost every one of these, although it would be nice if there was a bit more detail on the selections. For example, the greatest thing about the Anglia 105E was its revvy, eager, engine - the first oversquare (cylinder bore greater than stroke) design in a mass-production car, while the black-crackle-painted dashboard of the earlier MGBs is one of the prettiest in any car, ever (but I may be biased; I owned a '66 BGT and consider it the favourite in my personal car history). As for the Mini, just stand in any modern town centre and count the number of cars under two litres that do NOT have a transverse front-mounted engine and a two-box shape with short overhangs.
