Got the airpods pro. Was about to give up but this actuall helped! I cleaned it real good and now it works!

I fixed mine and it was doing that the bass basically is up too high. Go to settings, accessibility, AirPods, audio accessibility settings, Headphone Accommodations, press on that and make sure it’s on, then scroll down where it has the thing where it says slight, moderate, and strong. Make sure it’s on slight. After I did that it worked a lot better for me!your welcome!!❤

I cleaned the sensors per adviced with no avail. It worked better for a minute or so and back to static and like amplified sound on the left Airpod. Anyway, Apple replaced them again.. so I'm now on my third pair of Pro's. Let's see how they hold. In the meantime I bought some Sony C500s since my patience has gone out with these Airpods. One more fail and gone to the trash. I don't care if they were expensive.. I just need my music in my ear. Thanks for all the advice!

Mine are too old for replacement plan, it cuts off at three years. I just turned off noise cancelling and it stop the crackling. I will try cleaning the mics next. Thanks 👍

Thx bro ... It literally worked for me. And in some cases, the static/crackling sound sometimes came from the ear tip which I tried to change the ear tip of the airpods, the static is gone. So I managed to do it in your method.
