'They're letting me solve one more murder before I go to prison' is going to live with me forever.

I can't believe it took people this long to realize David Mitchell is perfect as "nerdy and awkward detective"

That moment when you realise that you immediately noticed the knife sticking out a clear millimetre more and are therefore exactly like John Taylor.

David Mitchell is quite adorable here.

I love those magical knives that make a metallic scraping sound whenever touched, looked at or at rest and completely stationary. Just like the guns that rattle like a pillowcase full of washers whenever lightly touched.

Please get this on PBS or Hulu or something so I can watch it here in the US. I'm already a David Mitchell fan from Youtube clips, but this show could really do well over here I think.

Is Webb going to make a cameo?
Great reveal, almost Columbo in the way he was like. Oh, one more thing and brings out the evidence of the crime.

Coming on TV1 here in New Zealand. Didnt know anything about this series till it was advertised on TV1.

Why does every UK comedian and comedy actor end up either hosting a quiz show (Lee Mack) or become a detective of some sort?

There's a lot to like about this series. The murder mysteries feeling like they were written by people who really don't know how to write legit whodunnits was not one of them. I feel like it was almost the intent, especially having watched interviews with David, he says in some of them that it isn't a whodunnit and you don't get all the clues. If that was the intent, though, it doesn't feel like the show is self-aware enough about that. For next season, either hang more of a lampshade on this aspect and make it part of the comedy, or actually write competant whodunnits. One or the other. Middle-roading it like this just feels weird.

So Holly decides to blackmail Lucy on the same night that her partner decides to kill her. And Lucy decides not to tell John, but does bring a knife remarkably similar to the one that the killer used, and then the killer returns to the scene at the exact same time the detectives are there.

That's a statistically significant number of coincidences, which proves that it's not a coincidence at all. The writers contrived this situation to force a climax in a very short time.

(I did really like parts of the series. Particularly David's acting. But the first rule of writing a mystery is that you have to have more than one suspect. And if you're going to hinge on remarkably unlikely coincidences, you need to hang a lantern on it or rewrite to make them seem more plausible.)

There's a flaw in Ludwig's logic. He says that the murderer's finger prints wouldn't be on the knife in the rack because it came from another house. But he did handle it, briefly, when he put it back in the rack ...

Watched the first episode. It was the last ill be watching. Ridiculous plot. David Mitchell being David Mitchell. Yet another on-the-spectrum-savant detective who sees what no one else does and pulls the rabbit out of the hat. Yawn.
