The english applied to the cue ball depends on where you're trying to position it for the next shot. So there's no single right way to do it in every case. I understand what the video is attempting to show, that the "right" way will make it easier to pocket the object ball, but position for next shot is just as important as making the current shot.

I shoot this shot everyday and I never use the same English. If I was pocketing the last ball I would use top spin every time. If I'm getting position on another ball I will use whatever English is needed to accomplish that while accounting for deflection, throw and the speed in which the pocket will accept each shot. All of these variations will be needed to consistently run out.

Right spin on a ball on the left cushion is more effective. Dependent on the position for you next shot though to state the obvious.

If it's your last shot maybe...t's funny that people believe there is a correct spin for any shot. Depending where your next object ball is both could be completely wrong or right. Set up this shot and practice making it with draw, top, stun, left spin, right spin, and everything in-between.

Yep hitting left will put opposite spin on the object ball which makes the object ball spin in the direction of the rail which what you want....whew that's a lot of words for "just hit left" ...but it absolutely 100% helps to know the physics that goes on as to "why" you should hit left. You can then use that knowledge on your shots

It depends where you need the cue ball to go for the next shot. There are many ways to hit this shot effectively.

It has its benefits hitting the ball with left hand side, it imparts right hand side on the ball.. This helps the object ball pull into the cushion and stick to it..

Someone explained this recently to me in terms of gears. Initially I thought that you would play into the cushion with right hand side but I guess here you are looking for the transference of check side on the cueball transferring to right hand side on the object ball helping it to hug the cushion.

The ball roll allows for the target ball to stay on rail, don’t have to but that added english(spin) ensures the shot accuracy. Been diving deep into pool. Bata Reyez 👴🏽

Also, If you're not scratching the piss out of the billiard cloth, your gonna miss. A longer tear will ensure for a more accurate more clean shot. Really try to gouge the slate too.
