the best thing to do in this game IS TO GET LOST, just go with the flow it's the best journey you never knew you needed

This isn't a game that the average gamer plays all the time. Instead....It is that game you always have installed and play from time to time.
Wether it is base building, Freighter upgrades,
Frigate missions,
Ship hunting,
Creating your ideal ship,
Fishing,
Planet hunting,
Guild standing quests,
Nexus quests,
Unlocking parts,
Unlocking tech,
Atlas path,
Finding Artemis,
Freighter battles,
Smuggling goods as a pirate,
Derelict Freighters or
Managing a settlement of your own and more.
There is always something to do. If you want a game that is laser focused, this isn't for you. If you just want to chill game with sandbox features and space exploration, it is. There are challenging modes too and good game customization.

I discovered this game at the start of the pandemic and fell in love with it. I'm now at 3, 300 hours and because Hello Games keeps dropping new content and improvements, all absolutely free, I'm still playing and enjoying it immensely.

The storyline is worth it alone. The game itself is like playing mincraft in creative mode though. You do things just to do them. Base building is just something to do, it serves no purpose since you can use your freighter. Disovering everything on a planet does nothing that furthers the gameplay and ship collecting along with all other collectibles equally does nothing. Currency becomes meaningless as well at a certain point. Same goes for gathering most resources since you can just buy them. For me personally this gets boring fast but for sandbox lovers that loves making up their own goals this is a gem

300+ hours in and I'm still finding new things to do

The game is great, but I see some misleading comments about game length. You can finish the game in 40-50 hours. After that, if you cannot find anything you enjoy, the game is finished. If you like building, +50 hours (minimum) for you. If you like collecting ships +50 hours more. If you are a completionist and wanna experience everything that the game offers, maybe then you can play 300+ hours, IMO. For me, I built a massive base and a massive gold farm. I collected/built 3 S-class ships. I upgraded them too. I spent some time with settlements. I did all the unique quests. I did a couple of repetitive quests too. I played the expeditions and got all the rewards in the meantime. After all that, my playtime was 130 hours. Nothing to do anymore. You can of course always explore new planets and find new ships but that was not for me. 130 hours is a long time, btw. I just mean keep your expectations in the line before you start the journey 💫

I hadn't played in a few years and came back last week and instantly fell in love. Played for about 30 hours, mostly messing around and exploring/farming, then i initiated the expedition and had such a great time, finished it, got the ship, and by the end that character was so much better off than my first one that i can now do the story again with the expedition guy. If anyone is on the fence then please give it a try, it's a special game and community

Props to the editors for combing through and picking out these different clips and mashing them together for a 3 min video 👏🏼. I don’t usually enjoy the editing on this channel, but this one was clean.

Hear my story if you doubt whether you should get in or not.

I was one the guys who didn't buy into the hype before the game launched. I always knew that if HelloGames stuck to it, it would become a great *exploration* game, but I was looking and hoping for something more. Maybe an overarching great story that gives meaning to all the exploration. That's important to me personally and it was lacking in the game at launch.

So after years of positive feedback from others, I finally started playing last month, and about 100 hours in, I can say it is indeed a vast exploration game with a lot of passion put into this aspect, but IMO it still lacks that true sense of purpose and engaging narrative. The story and side mission seem like contrived elements, forced in to engage you with different game mechanics and that's that.

That said, if you derive joy purely from visiting new planets, building fairly decent bases, upgrading your starships, even making your own fleet, there are many hours of fun waiting for you here.

Edit: Regarding the story, here's the sad part, I read through every line. I really like the phrase "Unimbibable bible full of text". I'm gonna use it in regular conversation 😄

I would just caution that NMS is a genre of game that will be more appealing to, say, WoW players than CoD players. You saw much of the basic gameplay loop in this video. If that “discovery” cycle with new visuals and things to mine is appealing, then this game is for you. But if that sounds as boring as death, it doesn’t matter if it is the best version of that genre. I see it over and over again, where someone glazes NMS and then a friend keeps asking “what am I missing?”.

One big thing that puts me off is that they have many many elements ships, skins, items that you can no longer get as they were from events in the past - I really do not want to start playing when I am locked out of all this stuff from the past. Its not an mmo there is no reason to lock it.

The first time i tried this game years ago i was unmedicated and my ADHD was so rough that i couldnt play more than 10 minutes without feeling super overwhelmed, and because I couldn't stop and read for a few seconds without just losing interest.

Few years later and medicated this game has been such a blast and i love every aspect of it and is so nice to see more people making content from the new update cause i get to learn so much.

The definition of making your own fun.

Give yourself goals, objectives and focus on them one at a time.

This is the best explanation I’ve got. I’ve had the game since release but have not jumped back in since launch. Most people only talk about the sand box

If you haven’t played for a while I recommend start an expedition, they’ll show you the latest things and cool rewards

Great video. I’d love a more formal form version of this video. Like a 10 minute synopsis of what the hell you do in no man’s sky. Mostly for new players thinking about hoping in

Was literally just thinking about getting this game. The only reason why I haven’t bought it is because I don’t know wtf is the point of it all.

Thank you, my dude. I've had NMS in my Steam library since 2021, gone around YouTube for years that basically gave me pros & cons, pro tips, etc. You definitely helped me out with almost 3 hours. Thank you again.

The only thing that is left is for player controlled systems and the ability to command armies and entire fleets of ships and stations (jk but who knows at this point. They might just add it for fun and it adds to the player experience and power fantasy or some other type thing)
