Despite heavy casualties during the battle of Kosovo (1389) against a broad alliance of the Balkan peoples led by Serbian lord Lazar and battle of Nicopolis (1396) against European Crusaders led by Jean of Never, Sigismund I of Hungary and Mircea I of Wallachia, Ottoman empire continued to expand under the leadership of sultan Yildirim Bayezid I. To the east new empire under amir Timur (Tamerlane) was on the rise and as the borders of two empires touched, the war was inevitable. The battle of Ankara of 1402 was one of the biggest fought between the Muslim empires. At the same time, results of this massive battle impacted Ottoman, Timurid, Byzantine empires and changed the course of the history of Europe, Asia, Middle East and Balkans.

After the battle of Ankara, Bayezid was captured. Timur started to smile when he saw Bayezid.
Bayezid ; Why are you laughing ?
Timur ; God has left this huge world to a blind man like you and a crippled man like me !
(Note = Bayezid had very little vision in his right eye, while Timur had a lame left foot)

Timur was limping, and bayezid's left eye was almost blind. it is said that after capturing bayezid when timur first talked him, he started laughing. when bayezid asked him why he was laughing timur said "isnt it weird that god left the world's fate into disabled mans' hands?"

"Crushed by elephants? You think you're so big huh? We'll show you to insult us like that!"

"No I meant we're literally going to crush you with elephants."

Well as a Serbian I can say its better fighting for ottoman empire since it was not really that genocidal st that time and timurid empire was one of most horror empires and if they expanded to europe they would massacre alot of civilians also the ottomans were even peaceful in the occupied lands more than catholics and byzantines who previrously owned these lands

Actually, Timur's first letters contain some compliments because Bayezid was a great commander and won against crusaders but Bayezid was so proud he didn't act wisely.

Funny fact, Ankara Airport (Esenboğa) is named after one of Timur's generals (İsen Buga) and the meaning is "Bonny Bullock". He was the commandant of the military unit with elephant-mounted troops and encamped in the location where now the airport stands.

Timur: So now I could just take over all of the vulnerable Ottoman and Byzantine lands right here on my doorstep ... Lol jk, lets march 10, 000 miles and try to take over China.

Was he playing on God-mode difficulty or something?

All the Turkic lords except his own son, left Bayezid alone in the battle. Last lord was that Serbian lord, Stefan Lazarevich. He retreated after he received the retreat order by Bayezid himself. Serbs were loyal to the Turkish Sultan. Even more than the Turks themselves.
