This series has proved so popular and influential in fact that the fanfiction writers have produced major works in and of themselves and garnered great cults, I mean followings. Such authors include Mo Hammed, and Joey Smith.

That series has spawned an ungodly amount of fanfic, none of even half as well-written as the original. And the fans really take the cosplay seriously! They hold conventions every week in any burg big enough to have a CVS store and they sure do to talk about how many conventions they’ve attended. It can get really boring if you’re just not that into it.

I hear there are even conventions people go to for this series and odd little clubs they attend on Sundays and sometimes Saturdays. I’d like to see more cosplay.

"Liquid Alchemy" was my favorite 1970's jazz fusion/symphonic rock progressive band. Never tired of listening to "Water into Wine, Wine into Blood." Such a great song.

You forgot to mention that this is a multi-contributor series like Star Wars Legends books. Some authors wrote anonymously, some used their own names, some used pen names like "The Teacher, " and others used the names of characters in the series or of other authors.

In a twist, some modern devotees claim that the wizard was secretly manipulating the contributors so they told the story he wanted to tell in the way he wanted it told. So when they thought they were writing letters to their fellow fans, the letters were actually from the wizard. Fans still disagree which volumes were produced by this sort of control and which were non-magic contributions by fans or (worse) manipulated by the wizard's arch enemy.

Every so often new authors claim to have more material. This usually results in deep divisions within the fandom, with some fans going so far as to kill other fans who think the new works come from the wizard. At a minimum, fans who don't like the new works throw their adherents out of their book clubs.

If it's the series I'm thinking of, the authors are pretty bad with plots and believable magical realism. There's some occasional not completely awful poetry and a couple of compelling characters, but the best bit's they actually stole from other published authors and only got away with by the cunning tactic of being born centuries before copyright laws were a thing.

I read both those series and didn't think much of either one.

I think the Song of Ice and Fire will be finished before that series finally wraps up. They've been teasing the final book for millenia!

My kids were also born in 94 and 98, and I read all the Potter books to them too! As for this other wizard series, we started listening to the audiobooks on road trips when they were older. We kept having to stop the books when they would say "wait, what?" Eventually they got sick of all of the tent patterns and fashion rules interrupting the stories, and we gave up. Plus the fandom for this series is really obnoxious.
