YNAB's Summer Reading List

If you listen to our podcast, Jesse has finally read Atomic Habits which is still the best book I’ve read so far this year! It’s one I think about often, and one I’ll definitely read again.

Jesse’s been applying the author James Clear’s ideas about habits to budgeting, and it’s fantastic. As I’ve been listening, it got me thinking about how much I enjoy finding out people's favorite books or what they are currently reading. I had posed that question in our YNAB Book Club Slack channel, and I was flooded with amazing responses — more than I could ever read in a single summer. I narrowed it down, and I have my official YNAB Summer Reading List, and I’m so excited about the books, I thought I’d share them with you today!

0:00 - Atomic Habits
0:49 - My Current Reads
1:38 - The Kitchen Counter Cooking School
2:21 - When Sadness is at Your Door
2:33 - Range
3:30 - How to Train Your Dragon
3:55 - Clever Girl Finance
4:38 - Joyful
5:39 - The Fifth Season

You should also make a review/wrap-up video for the month where you discuss what you liked or disliked of each book!

Thanks! I did screen shot a few of these. Currently finishing up The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes... I have the audible version. Hearing it in her voice considering her talents really give me the drive to keep moving... conquer those goals.

Currently reading:
Warren Buffett's letters to the shareholders - I'm reading these a little bit at a time

The Great Crash of 1929 by John Kenneth Galbraith
I used to listen to books on my commute to work/home; I'm trying to make time for them in my WFH schedule.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have already requested a couple of holds at the library and using the library's mobile app for audio books! I'm currently listing to American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.

I JUST finished The Glass Castle, a memoir (I know I'm late to the game) and it was incredible. I'm going to go watch the movie right now (and probably be disappointed, but I love to compare).

I enjoyed Michelle Obama's book Becoming much more than I anticipated. Some great takeaways from it include her hiring a personal chef when her daughter was diagnosed pre-diabetic and she needed help with healthy meals & that launched her white house garden and exercise movement and going to marriage counselling to "fix" her husband and figuring out what she needed to change about herself. That book gave me permission to hire help where I need it (and can afford it) without the judgments that held me back.

I love these videos and recommendations, have added them to my list. I just finished reading Utopia for realists by Rutger Bregman and This book could save your life by Graham lawton. Both are pretty good non fiction books. Still reading Normal people by sally rooney (fiction).

Am I the only one disappointed by the lack of velociraptors on the cover of "Clever Girl Finance"? Probably.

I've pre-ordered a copy of "Savage Legion, " by Matt Wallace, which is epic fantasy that's NOT about kings and queens and sounds awesome.

I’m reading The Color of Law. Not exactly uplifting, but an important examination of how our society has promoted white privilege at the expense of people of color through policies and laws that go against our Constitution. I highly recommend it.

You look gorgeous, Ashley!

I just finished “Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies” by Tara Schuster. So good. Now onto Shopaholic Christmas (which I didn’t know came out last October). I’ve been reading this series for 19 years! 😳
