The Most Powerful Beings in the Dune Universe

They'll be a few minor spoilers in this one, guys. As I said earlier, power in Dune is not typically discussed in these terms, but considering the fact that there are several characters in the Dune universe who would seem superhuman if they were to appear in real life, maybe it's actually an interesting topic. So I thought it would be fun to rank the characters. Let’s go from least powerful to most powerful. Also, I will only be discussing Frank Herbert’s Original six Dune books for this video!

My father loved Dune. I was too young to grasp it. He passed away 15 years ago. You ignited my interest in this fantastic epic. Thank you!

After reading all the Frank Herbert books, it felt like Leto II was the central figure in that universe, extending his influence not only far into the future, but into the past as well.

The most powerful being is sand.
Even Anakin couldn't beat it

Alya was one of my favorite characters. I absolutely FELT how she was abandoned by her mother.

Alia. Truly the most tragic character. Potential, confusion/vulnerability, and then possessed in exhaustion. Cried along with Duncan

Leto II. The fact that he intentionally made humanity despise him as a tyrant for the greater good of their preservation speaks volumes on his ability to wield power-and expecting nothing in return. A true hero and self-sacrificing saint in every sense of the word. Doing good but doing it not for your own ego but being selfless about it is one of the highest forms of honor.

Dude, I would pay large amounts of money for a audio book of all the Dune novels narrated by you. Seriously, you need to contact the Herbert Family and see if they'll license it.

Although Frank Herbert died before completing his version of the overall story, I think Murbella should be given honorable mention. At the end, by her overall combined Bene Gesserit and Honored Matre force, she takes over leadership of both the Bene Gesserit and the Honored Matres, although some will not accept her. Using a somewhat weak Star Trek analogy, it's like a being with the most superior logic of a vulcan combined with superior human emotional intuition. She becomes a reverend mother and has all the training of both the Bene Gesserit and the Honored Matres. She also receives all of Odrade's memories before Odrade dies.

In terms of a battle royale, don't forget about Fenring. He was considered a real threat to Paul in duelling.

As soon as I saw that you were only including the original 6, I thought of the God Emperor's enigmatic little statement: "Who has heard of Norma Cenva?"

My favorite character in the Dune books has always been Alia. Her story has always been so tragic! Born immensely powerful but surrounded by strife and violence since birth. To be the one to kill Duke Harkonnen, only to be killed by his influence in the future.

I think her brief moments of happiness was during her marriage to Duncan Idaho… hope you could do a video discussing Alia and/or Ganima

Miles Teg is probably my favorite character in Dune. His second form probably becomes more powerful than the first, but we'll never truly know.

It’s been awhile since I read this series but one of the themes I liked about it was that despite all the meticulous planning involved to create a super being that would propel humanity forward, it was love that set things in motion. Jessica loved Leto and bore him Paul, and if I recall, Odrade experienced feelings of love and compassion which the other Bene Gesserit saw as a flaw but ultimately Odrade ends up being one of the most important figures in the Dune universe.

Probably one of the best lines of the whole series is when the god emperor asks one of the bene gesserit

"where did you get the spice essence? it hasnt been available for thousands of years."

"Waste not, want not." Was the reply

Organism's character development, little bits of philosophy, and a showdown of the most powerful characters all under 10 min. Good shtuff.
